Hey everyone!

So ibwas wondering if anyone can give me some help here. I have a two notes captor x and i have it hooked up in stereo to my motu m2 it's running my victory kraken 50w. And for the life of me i cannot figure out the issues im Having.

It sounds like overly bright and when im on the neck pickup it sounds like a single coil with a wah pedal turned on and toe down? Has anyone had a similar issue? Could it be my speaker cable? Is that even possible?

Im using my own IRs from Lancaster audio and they sound great in my kemper but no idea on this. At first i though it was a unit problem so i sent it back and got a new one hoping it was a defect but nope still the same problem. Any advice is welcomed!

Can you describe exactly how you have everything hooked up AND what type of cable you use for each step?
E.g.
Guitar-->Instrument cable-->Amp
Amp 8 Ohm Out-->Speaker Cable-->Captor X In

etc.

Yeah definitely so it goes

Guitar -> amp -> amp output (8ohm) -> captor x (8ohm) input --> left and right out -> motu m2 input 1&2 via xlr to 1/4

Captor high input switch is on and level is at 10 oclock

All eq and gain is at noon on the kraken 50w

Thanks for the help!

Ok, thanks. Disclaimer, I don't own the Captor X (just a Torpedo Live).

Steps:
1) Is the Captor X hooked up to its power supply?
2) Have you also connected a speaker cab from the Speaker Out output on the Captor X?
The reason I'm asking this, is that while not a loadbox, the Mesa Boogie CabClone COMPLETELY changed character (for the better) when you hooked up an actual load to its output. All the complaining that Glenn Fricker e.a. did, I wonder how many tried that little trick. Sure, it's lame, since it's supposed to work if you set the speaker out on Silent too, but nevertheless, on my Mesa Mark V:25, I *did* do this test and it was night and day.

3) It could be as simple as a crappy preset IR.

But I also recommend you to ask this question on the Two Notes subforum. Guillaume (president of Two Notes) is pretty responsive normally.

I havent connected a speaker cab to it no. Ive just been going into wall of spund and using my own IRs from lancaster audio and ml sound lab. They work amazing with my kemper.

But yeah i sent a support ticket with two notes so hopefully something comes of it cause im like out of ideas. Someone told me to change my speaker cable but idk if a speaker cable would change the sound that drastically right? Forgive my ignorance if it actually does.

Well, there may be a chance that you're using an instrument cable instead of an actual speakercable.
It typically shouldn't have the weird effect you describe, but it's not good for the amp either.

A guitar/instrument cable has a core, insulation and a 'braided' shield around that, and then the outer cable mantle.
Because of this center core + shield interaction, instrument cables have a capacity per foot or meter.
The higher this capacity, the more treble-loss you will experience. Under 40pf/Foot is considered good.

This typically doesn't apply to speaker cables.
A speaker cable has 2 cores, each individually insulated and then these two together in a thicker mantle.
The speaker cables generally have thicker cores (>1mm2) than a typical guitar cable's core (~0,25mm2 - 0,75mm2).

Try using the cabs from the Captor/Two Notes and moving the mic’s around to taste. Eliminate the Lancasters to see if those are what you’re not digging.

Oh no it's definitely a speaker cable! Haha. I wohld never confuse the two as i know if can mess up an amp! :)

Oh the cabs from the captor sound even wirse than my own personal ones do :/

Did you ever get this figured out? I have a similar issue. Also when I use the attenuator it seems to make the amp drive more instead of lowering the volume.

I would try it in the low input setting. Is the unit flashing red when you play? It should always stay blue.
I’ve found anything over like 5 watts is too hot for the high sensitivity
