Hey guys,
I have been using the live for a year or so and it has been great, here's my chain.
R8 les paul>100 watt silver jubilee head>torpedo live>focusrite scarlett 2i2>GarageBand>live wire solutions 4-channel headphone amplifier>beyerdynamic dt 770 studio Headphones

So basically 100% of the time I play this way, I am looking to step up the sound quality and was wondering if my next step should be the live upgrade to the studio or if I should be upgrading my interface, better headphones, a preamp for my headphones...etc

Any help would be much appreciated

I thought I saw someone from this forum saying they upgraded from the Live to the Studio because it was better sounding. I just don't remember what thread it was in.

I have the Studio, but have no experience with the Live. I don't play out, so I figured I'd get the bigger unit that had more options.

Not sure if that was much help.

I read up on that before and the Studio has higher end DAC (Digital Audio Converters). You can see all the details on their compare page. So yeah it should make it better but I have no idea how much better or if it's even noticeable.

I think the best thing about that upgrade is the ability to use two IR's at the same time vs one at a time with the CAB and Live. Btw I noticed you use a headphone amp with your headphones, does it make a huge difference? Been wondering if I need one to drive my Sennheiser HD600s.

Thanks for posting, yea I've read it is a step up, but is it worth the upgrade idk...
Yea it helped because they weren't that loud direct into a laptop or cell phone, son cranking them over that volume caused breakup on the low end early, this amp helps a little but not a great amount, I'm wondering if in need a better headPhone amp too

Been using the Two Notes Live quite easily and successfully for two and a half years....I never felt the urge to upgrade...

I upgraded from the Live to the Studio. WELL worth the offset in price for me. I love using dual cabs and mic's. Yes, as mentioned the converters and hardware are in fact of higher grade per Two Notes. Also it handles more wattage as well. Easier to navigate and create presets on the unit itself, etc.

Now don't get me wrong, the Live is great and I think they are named appropriately. If you are gigging and running direct and want to use your amps, it's killer. I use my Studio IN my home studio and prefer the additional feature set.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to use monitors?
I find playing on studio monitors much more natural and pleasant than playing on headphones.

Regarding the torpedo live vs studio question:
I have a RME UCX. I can't imagine the torpedo studio has much better converters than the RME. Probably they are better, but at least as a non-professional I'm not sure I'd hear it. Then you'd have a better interface, with better A/D and D/A converters than the Scarlett. Then you can also run WOS III on your PC if you want multi-IR capabilities. Also with my ATH M50s and AKG K271 I have found the headphone output to be loud enough. But I don't know if your DT770s have a higher impedance.

Anyways, I think the biggest change would be headphones vs studio monitors.

I like to play silent and I don't like to hear my strings
I had rocket monitors and didn't like them with the setup over the headphones

I've used the Live since they first came out. Fantastic unit! I upgraded to the STudio back last year and it has been great. Mine goes with me for live work as well as it is racked in with my Helix. I love having the 2 IRs in stereo. Sounds amazing when you combine them.

If you're doing nothing but home recording, get a Suhr Reactive load and use an IR loader plugin.

Playing guitar thru headphones suck!

Torpedo Studio is worth the upgrade....
