TwoNotes: Live vs VB101

Can anyone share with me the difference between "resistive" and "reactive" loads when comparing these two units? I mean, one states its best use is "stage", the other "studio", but I'm still a little blurred with one over the other. I mean, ya, the VB101 is a beefier unit offering "moar stuff", but ultimately, seems the "Live" would be a great DI box for recording, no?

Live is an awesome DI box for recording and live and practicing quietly at home at night period. I love this thing! Its one of those products that has pretty much answered all of my prayers.

I've used it on a couple of scores already in the studio with far better results than I had with my Kemper of last summer. The studio liked it so much that they purchased one for in house.

In reality, I really wish I would have just bought this instead of the Kemper last year. Thankfully, I was able to sell the Kemper for what I wanted for it quickly and move on.

They key question to ask yourself is are you very happy with your tube amp tone? Does it work for you always? See the quality amps that you own, I can imagine that your answer to that is yes.

If that is the case, then the Live would be a great choice. The cab emulations on it are absolutely stellar! If I am at a gig where there is really small space which happens much more often than not....I tend to bring my SL5 combo and bring the Torpedo to run FOH. Works great. Equally well....if the place has great monitoring, then I'll just bring the Satch head and run it right into the live and be done. Fantastic tone all around, safe and it just works. My setup is a speaker cable to the live....Live to the snake or board, 4 cables into my pedal-board and head and good to go. Very simple.

Ya man, these two notes are getting my attention all over again. So, if I may, what's the main diff - other than price - for the VB101 over the Live ?? And what's the main diff between the resistive load versus the reactive load??

I plan on doing some serious considering on these units. Of course I LOVE my amps' tones - LOVE them. But it's all about the sweetspot - which is cranked and mic'd - not always a practical application. I've got the full throttle 2xFRFR + Axe2 set up too. But ya, it's a lot of fiddlin' to get me to where my amps already go, so to speak - and something I am sure many a cat out there understands. I like it, but it's a LOT of tweaking. My amps, OTOH, flip the standby to "RUN" and man, they're THERE!!!!!!!

TwoNotes is getting highly infectious here... Will need to spend some QT with 'em in the not too distant future.

Yes...yes you have. As has ProgFreak from the Diezel subforum, and now "rockinchippy" who's been laying it DOWN with his new Naked.

I'll be doing some research today on both the VB and the Live. I think it's gonna be an expensive process - incoming Naked AND a TwoNotes unit. So it goes.

On the side, I am diggin' the Axe-II, but I'm really starting to realize that of the small arsenal of amps I have, they all give me the exact tone I want. So while I may have gobs and reels of other amps, and effects, and cabs, I really like what I have. But recording them easily at max volume (to get the bloom and boom) is a hard feat when I'm no longer in a place that allows for max volume.

I think I'm FINALLY onto something here men. THANK YOU for your persistence.

I am in a similar situation as you. Have the Axe II set-up, and still LOVE my amps.
Herbert, Hagen, 20th XTC, SLO, QuickRod, Mark's...
Wanna use them and as Steve mentioned (before his avatar distracted ,me), the LIve can be used WITH a cab too.

Yes, I do run them both together. When you have a cab plugged in, the load is bypassed, so the TNTL has no affect on the cab. And, you get a nice FOH signal that is tweakable with the onboard EQ and cab sims/mic sims.
