Ty has that perfect ballsy mid gain tone down...wow!
The audio on YouTube doesn't do it justice..but it still sounds good here.
Check out his 'Rock Garden' CD ...My favorite King's X CD for tones is 'Ear Candy'

I've always loved his tone. I'd be a happy man if I could get a nice "gretchen" tone. The first three albums are my favorites.

hard to believe it's a pod! Much happier with his tone of the past 3 years with the Egnater M4 and custom modules I did for him!

Adam, just tried DLing the album off Zune Marketplace...you are correct sir, awesome album!

I had overlooked this CD and only recently got it. That first track "Ride" is killer... ;)

...and you're right Jeff. His tone on the recent stuff is great. I especially like some of the stuff on Something's Coming.

The guitar on 'Ride' is a Pod?
He sure knows how to fit it in a band mix.

I wish I could make Line6 shit sound that good. I guess I just fail at tweaking. Bulb is really good at tweaking that shit too.

Thanks for reminding me. I just downloaded Rock Garden and Balance from Amazon. I'm a long time King's X fan, but the only solo Ty I've heard has been Moonflower Lane. I never think to check and see if he's got any other releases until I hear about a new King's X recording.

+1. Out Of The Silent Planet was one of those albums that turned my guitar-playing-world upside down.

Eveything he does is good! From King's X to the Jelly Jam and Platypus, and especially his solo stuff. Easily my favorite guitarist/songwriter.

Yes indeed Ty's solo stuff is awesome, so is Jelly Jam...

I wish he and dUg and Jerry would put the same effort into King's X.

I'm as big of a fan as there could be for KX (my son is named Ty!) but damn, I wish their solo stuff wouldn't dilute the band's efforts.

King's X is my favorite band of all time, and Ty is my main man but they need to get back to form, IMO.

Ty is my favorite rock guitar player ever. He has the perfect mix of melody/songwriting prowess mixed with technical ability and feel. The knows when to hold back and when to let it rip.

King's X has been my favorite band for quite a while,.....'89.

  My son's name is Ty too. Funny thing is my wife picked the name without even knowing I always wanted to name my son that.

As for the rest of your post.... I agree 100%!

I almost agree with you (on the diluted part...). I heard an interview with Dug quite a while ago where he said the band had come close to splitting up and one of the main problems was that Dug didn't like singing on the songs that Ty wrote (lyrics maybe?), and now they basically separate the songwriting and singing completely. I also got the impression that they valued their friendship and fans and used the compromise so they would continue to be together. I had recently seen them live and you could tell that they were really enjoying themselves - and their meet and greet was a lot of fun.

I also think they get very crappy promotion and representation. Ogre Tones was finished almost a year before it was released, and their latest one "XV", is very, very good - yet literally ignored by modern media (as far as i can tell). Finally, they remind me a little bit like Rush in that Rush was never the same after splitting with Terry Brown (and King's X hasn't been the same after splitting with Sam Taylor).

I can tell you first hand they do have a interesting relationship. I agree with the quality of songs and have said to Ty why don't you write stuff like that for Kings X? I personally feel that it's because X has never gotten any recognition and made good money for what they have done. So they have to develop other streams of possible income, solo efforts. I mean at the end of the day even if the music is unbelievable and they barely make enough money to live, you start to think you should look for other ways to make money! There is much more to the relationship they have and it's personal, so I won't post any of it. It has been said so many times it's criminal what they have done and what they have received. All the props in the world about being so influential, dynamic, unbelievable as a 3 piece don't put cash in their pockets! The early days, as far a production, they were great with Sam at the helm but this is where it all started and has led them to where we are today!
