Hey guys, my ubercab was sounding kinda dull, and very flubby/farty the other day and so I'm guessing I need to get new speakers for it (I've owned it for almost 8 years now)? My Kerry wright cab which is normally less tight, was actually much tighter and punchier sounding.

I was thinking to get a cross of v30's and h75's creambacks for it this time instead of t75's. Would that workout for this cab? Also, should each speaker I get be 16 ohms since it's a 16 ohm cab?

Hmm, typically speakers sound better with age. v30's and t75's usually don't flub or fart unless they are reaaaallllllly worn out.

I would open it up and make sure everything is tight. Baffle, Speakers, back panel, etc. Also the sound post may not be contacting the back panel, put something between it.

If you do end up replacing speakers, yes they all need to be 16ohms for 16ohm cab. Alternatively you could opt for all 8ohm speakers and you would have an 8ohm cab if you wired it the same way.

Speakers don't just age and get flubby, or they certainly shouldn't unless they get wet or have some other environmental factor--or you've just blown them.

Before you invest in new speakers, maybe test them out to make sure if they aren't working. A 9 volt on your speaker cable to look at the speaker pop direction should be a good start. If the speakers aren't all moving in the same direction when you apply the battery, it means that they're either wired out of phase, or one is burned out. For example, if 3 speakers function properly but one does not, and the cab is a sealed design, then the three speakers pushing out will cause the defective speaker to pull in.

Also, I'm not super familiar with the UberKab construction, but if it's anything like a Marshall 1960, check to make sure that the center brace is still tight. I've had a couple of cabs where that brace loosened up and was vibrating, which caused that "flubby" type of sound--it ended up vibrating the entire back of the cabinets. Simply tightening that up with get the cab back where you want it to be.

As for your impedance question: 16 ohm speakers in a 4x12 that has a total impedance of 16 ohms is standard. Two speakers are wired in parallel (two 16 ohms speakers in parallel is 16/2 = 8 ohms), then the pairs are wired in series (8+8=16 ohms).

Check for blown speakers or something came loose. I was playing mine today, and flubby is one of the last words to describe the tone.

That's what made it surprising because it usually is very tight and punchy. I think I'll probably just have my tech look at it though

Curious to see what the tech says. I am with the others and have to say my one experience with the Uber was nothing near flubby. First thing I thought of was that maybe something was loose.

Also, play with your amp knobs. Especially the bass, depending on what your definition of "farty" means it could be an intermittent amp issue.

don't uber's have batting? maybe it just fell away from the back. 8 year old staple job and all...

All my amps were flubby with the ubercab with same exact settings as when they sounded very tight with it and as said before they all sounded much tighter and how I'd expect them to sound with my Kerry wright, which has never sounded as tight as the ubercab before. I think it's pretty clear it's a cab issue whether it be an issue with the speakers or something with the cab itself like something being loose, but I'll have my tech see

Get a 9V battery and a flashlight... take the 9V and plug a speaker cable in to the cab and take the other end with the tip and touch it across both terminals on the battery... while looking thru there front grill with a flashlight to see if all 4 speakers are moving... if not... you've found you're culprit. You might need a friend... or a long speaker cable.
