UberKab Question

So I swapped a while ago the stock T75’s in my Ubercab for Fane F90’s and I like that there’s a bit more clarity, definition and sounds even bigger, but it also got darker sounding and lost its bite from when it had the 75’s crossed with V30’s, which are still there. For those who’ve tried various speakers in this cab, have you guys had any favorite combos? If it was just more biting and gritty it would be perfect, but I’m skeptical if I can find another speaker that’ll match the F90’s bigness and clarity

I have the same F90/V30 combo in my Diezel 412 FL and in there it sounds a lot brighter, more open and tighter, but not as big. It still though imo could also use more bite and be less smooth

What about presence and treble pot on amp ? They are already maxed ? ?

Is the Uberkab 8ohms? Diezel 16ohm mono?

8ohms cabs are darker. I prefer 16ohm cabs. They are brighter and punchier.

Ditch them all and find a quad of Marshall Vintages (the Marshall version of V30). They sound like a hybrid V30/T75 speaker as is. And you’ll get no phase issues as when mixing speakers with different efficiencies like stock V30s/75s. I have a full stack of Uberkabs loaded with these and couldn’t be happier.

Sorry to say but after many cabs, many speakers, many amps... UberKabs "as they are" are simply fuckin' the best, hands down.

This will give you an idea. The Chinese and UK v30s are closer to each other than either is to the Marshall

Try replacing the V30’s with Greenbacks. GB’s have more grit and bite than V30’s. I don’t know the efficiency of the Fanes, but if it’s much higher than the GB’s, put them on the bottom.

Sorry to say but after many cabs, many speakers, many amps... UberKabs "as they are" are simply fuckin' the best, hands down.

Overall it sounds better to me with the Fane F90’s than the stock 75’s, I just miss that extra sizzle and bite from those, but the trade off seems to be more clarity, definition and bigness with the F90’s, so can’t agree on it being best as as. Actually now that I think about it, even stock it was still much darker sounding than my other cabs, but had that sizzle. Seems to just be a dark sounding cab by nature. I’ve had it for about 10 years, so definitely love it, but spend at least 90% of my time playing my Kerry Wright 412. That’s the best cab I’ve had overall. The Uber is for when I want all out heaviness and bigness

I was actually planning on having that combo in my Kerry Wright cab, so I’ll see how I like it there. They’re actually mid ‘70’s 25 watt Creambacks with RIC cones, but in the greenback ballpark. I wanna get pre-rola GB’s eventually, but only at the rights price and stuff. The F90’s seem to have very high efficiency, so may need to have them on bottom

I’ve got a Splawn cab with V30’s and Greenbacks on top and it’s a killer combo. Especially for Marshall type amps like my Monomyth.

Just found this.....

prior to January 2009 the Uberkab design was slightly different with the speakers being rear mounted and wired at 8 ohms.

I ended up just putting a full quad of F90’s in it and it’s I think the best I’ve gotten the cab to sound so far. Sounds bigger and heavier. Because of the Ubercab’s foam design it’s still inherently smoother and darker than my other cabs, but sounds huge and very tight and a little less smooth and brighter than with the cross of V30’s somehow. I guess a full quad of these just work. I’ve always preferred crossing 2 different speakers, but this is the first in a while where I like a full quad more. The F90’s seem to be heard more than other speakers I’ve tried anyway when crossed, so the full quad seems like a good fit for them
