There are a billion Catholics, I know many and very few of them strike me as being "controlled" by the church. I attend an Orthodox church between 4 and 6 times a year. Religion has spawned more wars worldwide than any other reason in the history of man. The Vatican had their own money AND police department. That's about control. Nor did I say every religious person is being controlled. Their choice their beliefs. It's about the organizations themselves. Are there pure and good churches/religions? Of course, but usually on a small scale.

While there are theologically sound churches there are no pure/good churches in terms of the membership. That is a thought that is deeply counter to the actual Christian faith. Churches are made of fallible people like any other organization.
