MS is great but for me Uli is it. His voice is so unique and is IMO such a big influence of many of the better shredder types.
Let me preface this by saying I own flying Vs largely because of the Schenker brothers. I might be a little biasedMesa\Kramer":d75cv0io said:Schenker needs better representation here.
Tone alone Schenker destroys Uli.
Uli prolly has a few more chops, but can get really out there sometimes in disonance and slop.
Much prefer Michael.
Prolly his most shreddy solo ever on this one
Beginning and main solo @ 3:10
I got into the Scorpions in the Blackout period. I got some of their older cassettes, but to be honest; I liked the streamlined, less progressive/trippy vibe from Blackout on. Commercial Scoripions. They lost me once they started whistling in songs and doing crap like "Tease me Please Me"controlled_voltage":1utawmuv said:It's a really tough call…..i love them both dearly, and was exposed to Michael first.
But the astral physicist/ ex pothead in me votes uli just for his extended repertoire and overall jaw dropping ability.
I still freak out on polar nights and fly to the rainbow live….The amount of FUNK in his rhythm playing is not mentioned often but he just has a lot more swing and yes FUNK as in american R & B syncopation than MS-I am sure due to all of that hendrix love.
That said MS is more down to earth and grounded in hard rock..and sometimes you don't want to be challenged ?
In the end they are both gods and I feel lucky to be able to be alive to appreciate their music.I met Uli once and he signed my vinyl copy of virgin killers-as many have said he is the kindest most zen like gentle soul.

zachman and his cousin mark k. here.
mark's band sacred rite was the only game in town during our high school years but they killed most of the hollywood hair bands of the next decade and it was a blast seeing them rip covers and originals all night long
take a listen to mark sing and rip a gem of a solo on this one:

I prefer listening to Michael but it's of course a matter of stylistic preference.
By the way, I hear a lot more Schenker influence in your playing on Surfin' the Shark than anything else of yours I've heard. Recognized it immediately and dig it.
