I take it none of the members here are members over there?

I am just curious is that like a gear forum for teenagers or something, let me clarify...

I am not trying to start a board war or anything but when I am googling information about a amp or artist's gear there is always a link to a thread relating to what I searched on google that goes to the UG forum.

When I read a thread there about gear it just makes me :aww: for example the Adam Jones gear thread:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/sh ... ?t=1226426

I felt like registering there and posting corrections to all the wrong info they have on amps, artists gear etc but then I thought why bother there is just too much misinformation posted there?

At least I got you guys here at RT and we are always right so that's all that matters.

I have been a member of UG for a very long time. I have over 8,000 posts there.

You're very right, it does have a lot of young kids who don't know diddly squat about gear. But you have to understand that it's a tab site first and foremost. That was it's main purpose, and it continues to be the “best” go-to website for tabs. But because there is an enormous forum as well, you cannot stop these 13 year old youngens, that are there for the tabs, posting their opinions, even though we all know they're wrong. After all, that's not what UG is all about. It has always been about encouraging young people and making sure they are a part of the community as much as anyone else.

But there are actually those who do know what they are talking about, it's just there are so many threads and questions that it's impossible to get to them all and clarify any misinformation. Just like every forum, there are people who know plenty and there are people who know little. But on the majority of other forums (R-T, TGP, HC) those that know little are often “wise” enough to keep their mouth shut regarding matters “past their pay grade”; which is not the case with 13 year olds who have become obsessed with the social aspect of gear and the discussion of it.

And it also bothers me that when you google certain questions regarding Diezel, Elmwood or Egnater, Rig-Talk does not always come up. And regarding other questions, UG always comes up. But that's google. UG is an enormous website with over 1 million users. Rig-Talk has like 5,000, at a guess.

The crux of it is, in my opinion, Ultimate-Guitar serves a purpose. So does Rig-Talk and HC. I've always hated HC and ss.org because of the way they were run, but they serve a purpose. Just because it doesn't suit me, it doesn't mean it has any less importance or relevance than anything else.

Yeah, they have a lot of snotty know it all teenagers over there who think they have guitar gear, and the whole world, all figured out.
But there are also some really knowledgable dudes there to who are in their 20's and 30's.
It's fun forum, as long as you don't take it too seriously.

I use the tabs on that site all the time but it was not till recently I started finding links to that forum on Google when searching stuff. I think UG is great for tabs I am just curious as to what's up with the forums so that's why I started this thread. Thanks for the answer it makes sense to me.

Oh dear god....Someone said a Spider 3? Really? Disturbing to say the least.

I interpreted that comment as a joke.
Most of the rest of the post weren't too far wrong from what I could see.
Not endorsing UG here, it's full of dumbasses, but this is not a great example of the dumassery that goes on there.

Basically, it's full of teenagers who want to be a part of the community like their older peers, so they post as much as they can, stating what their experience is, which is generally just Spider / MG / Crate / Behringer / etc. But it has a lot of other people, too.

If you genuinely are annoyed at how wrong some people are, sign up and rectify any stupidity you notice yourself. I'm not having a go, I'm just saying that it would be good to have more knowledgeable people aboard.

It's a good beginner website for musicians, along with MX (formerly musicianforums, now sputnimusic), but for the most part websites like RT the TGP are better for gearheads. UG still has some knowledgeable people though, so it's not a complete waste of time to surf around for some information, and you occasionally get to help some younger musicians.

Why doesn't Rig-Talk expand itself into something like a gear review site? Musician Forums had to change due to complications with the legality of tabs, and became a decent music review website instead. RT as a gear review site could bring in more people and get more discussion going. Gearheads are always wanted good reviews and clips from knowledgeable people, and there doesn't seem to be too much out there for high-end gear.

Then again, this place is also great the way it is. :D
