on a second point, Suhr? really? ;) well ok then lol pensa suhr ( in the original incarnation of the company) were most definitely not a metal style guitar company, and in the present incarnation are more or less a boutique builder. will have to take a look at the range but pretty sure they're not designed and marketed at the metal segment in general

Youre kidding right? Why, because its well made? Sorry but a guitar dosent have to have skull inlays, bevels and white binding to be the perfect metal guitar. Its a pretty closed mined approach to the while subject actually. The player makes the guitar metal, not the other way around.. other wise youre a 13 year old with a warlock.

Yup.

Nope, You're misunderstanding, read my commetns about 3/4 posts back and the OP.

I agree with everything you're saying. as i say i probably should have named the Poll Ultimate metal guitar brand.

I'll say it again This is a poll about the what people feel constitutes the reconisable face of metal. When you were a kid, what did you envisage when you thought " i want a metal guitar?". Up until i discovered ESP thru metallica, every time i thought metal, that jackson headstock and shark fin inlays sprung into my head.

It's not closed minded as im not talking about the ultimate metal model. its broader scope than that, more generalised. my ultimate metal guitar model would be one of those charvels i spoke about. or maybe a PRS custom 24 (which maybe shoulda been included because they're marketing quite a lot of "metal" demographic guitars these days

that thing does it for me. one day im going to have one

ESP.

Ibanez and Jackson are, in my eyes, more mid-80's shred machines, like Charvel. Dean and BC Rich are too xotic to be hardcore.

So I decided on ESP. It covers everything - shred, xotic shapes, and simple, raw shapes, etc.

When i think metal I dont think of suhr guitars, I put them in the Tyler/Vigier cat.
Nice guitars but you dont see a lot of metal bands using them.

I voted ESP for a few reasons, I own a midrange LTD and Jackson,(and played lots of both) and the Jackson is killer for metal, but it's such a different guitar neck shape wise, Jackson have compound fretboards which are great for shredding but for my taste don't allow as well for other styles of playing, basicly great for shredding but if I were doing some clean passages using chordal playing I wouldn't like it as much as an ESP neck, each is to their own though.

I feel for a 'metal' guitar to be great it has to be able to do every style of music, because metal is such a broad and varied genre.

Although, enough of my pretention, I prefer ESP to Jackson for metal chugging. I won't buy an Ibanez simply because they don't have the low end balls for rhythm, they're great for lead but not rhythm in my opinion, and the whispy necks aren't my thing, I like a bit of girth.

Charvel are a 2nd probably for me, or Caparison. I've never played a Dean I liked... and I've played only the high end models, the Mave sig wasn't bad though, hate ML's.

Jackson, or ESP. My RR24M cost me about $600 new, and it is one of the best guitars I have played, it feels fucking amazing. But the ESP Horizon NT-II gives me immense GAS, infact, if I had the money, that would be my next guitar.

I voted Jackson too. When I think metal, I automatically think Jackson :dunno: They cater to the metal community. On a side note, the white Marty Friedman Kelly causes me to pitch a tent every time I see it

This +1

I've always liked those too. Total Seasons In The Abyss era guitar. I picked one up at a Namm show when it was still available and it was a tank. All maple body and neck and the weight to prove it, Great neck.

I have wanted one of those since i was 16....

I remember I was 16 in highschool when the 95 or 96 Musician's friend catalog came out with pics of that guitar in the ESP section, I had also just seen slayer supporting Divine Intervention at the Henry J Kaiser auditorium a few months earlier. I just could not afford one then and I could not even find one till I was 23 when I could finally afford it.

i saw that tour too.. in belfast, machine head were supporting them off of burn my eyes.. i still have the video of MTV showing of it. My first T.V. appearence, i had bright yellow laces in my combat boots and was crowdsurfing. saw a flash of the laces just as i got dumped on top of a bouncer :D
