How different are these amps? I had a ultralead which sounded great but I was always trying to get it to saturate a little. Is that what the CLX offers compared to the Ultralead.

Pretty sure the CLX is just the EL34 version of the UL.

That's exactly what it offers. An Ultra Lead has TONS of headroom with KT88's while a CLX breaks up nicely with EL34's. Both escellent amps but if you want a little more grit, CLX!

I like them both. Like said the difference is the power amp being KT88 or EL34.

Just a note the CLX isn't just the EL34 version of the Ultra-Lead, they have a different tube layout which indicates more than just different power tubes.
LoC have you played both or are you just commenting on the general difference in tube characteristics (genuinely curious as I'm obviously selling a CLX but have never played an Ultra-Lead)?
