The past weekend was a bit of a busy week for me trading gear around.

Friday, I grabbed a few month old EVH 5150III Stealth 100w on trade from a buddy of mine for my EVH5150III EL34 100w. A number of you saw my previous thread where I was looking to get rid of this harsh mid-high tone I was not liking with my Mesa 412 oversized cab loaded with V30s with my EL34 head. My buddy and I had been chatting about this also and he suggested a trade. Despite a number of people telling me they sound the same, I had him come over and let me give it a run through. Immediately upon plugging in I told him he wasn't getting it back. Same settings on everything in my rig and dialing the amp to the exact same settings I had been running the EL34 at, it just felt darker and shifted the mids to where I was happy with them and got rid of that harshness I wasn't liking. Even got am EVH 2x12 cab with it out of the deal that's missing the grille cloth and is a little beat up and plan to eventually buy a pair of Creambacks, toss them in the Mesa Cab in an X and take two of those V30s and put them in the EVH 2x12 for an "iso cab" setup in the spare closet of my home studio.

Friday I also got a commitment from a guy to "buy" my JVM205h, however that quickly changed to "hey I don't have the cash would you want to do this trade"... That trade ended up being for a 1989 JCM800 2210 head that had just been serviced with new JJ pre and power tubes, replaced the IC Chip, cleaned all the tube sockets and pots, replaced electrolytics and reflowed all the tube socket solder joints based on the receipt he provided dated 4/26/2023. It's an amp I've always been curious about and was originally taking it on trade because it's a value up trade for me to make a little more money on, however now I think I've fallen in love with this thing and may need to resort to selling myself on the street corners here in Ocala to pay for these medical bills I was planning to pay off with the JVM funds :ROFLMAO:

Total spent this weekend was $0 and I've got two bad mammajamma amps in the collection to sit beside my 6505+ and Carvin V3 heads.

The bad part about this JCM800 however is now I am looking at mods and ways to add a little more gain to it to really get it to scream lol The GAS never goes away does it...

Yeah your problem was the cab. Those amps aren't super fond of V30's. The Stealth & the EL34 Stealth are essentuially the same amp except for the tubes.

Everyone said it was the cab, and I don't disagree, but buying an entirely different cab or speakers really isn't in the budget right now trying to pay off medical bills for a post-covid heart issue I had been dealing with. The trade offer was given so I gave it a play through to try and decided this was the best move for now. Like I said I'll eventually get some Creambacks here once things are squared up to add to the mix. I actually like how it sounds overall much better now though. I've always gotten along better with 6L6 amps as a whole. When I bought the EL34 head, I was seriously looking at Stealths too but decided to try the EL34 so I have no regrets. I've owned every variation of the 5150 family at this point and the Stealth through the V30s is my favorite of all now.

Good deals!
I thought the JCM800 trade offer was going to be a scam. Guy produced receipt for work completed and when he got here, everything looked legit. Even can see brand new J/J electronics electrolytic caps sticking out of the case. It's clean as can be without a spec of dust, no scratchy sounding pots and all the tubes look brand new. Really scored on that deal.

I love my Stealth . Always need one 5150 type head I’m the herd .

The 2210's are the bitches whip . Now you can play like Michael Schenker !!!

how do you like that v3 head Phil? see them all the time for cheap.

It's honestly not a terrible amp overall. KILLER pedal platform and I ran my Line6 Helix through the loop for a while on it.

In EL34 form, it leaves much to be desired. Kind of boxy mids, really open bottom end and clacky highs. I'm considering tossing some 6L6's in it here in the not so distant future and trying it out with that setup as everyone I have spoken to says that's the absolute ticket to making those things sound great.

It was left to me by my father when he passed, so I'll never get rid of it. It definitely made me a bit of a believer though.
