Everyone knows I'm in pair down mode (I've sold 4 guitars over the past 40 days and am still selling a half dozen more guitars and amps too). After getting out of training one evening last week, I stopped by a GC and played an EBMM Luke III with an all rosewood neck that I liked a lot and it was priced right. I called my guy at my local GC and asked if he had one and he told me he had 2 of them. One HH and one HSS. BINGO! I'm a humbucker guy so I went yesterday and messed around with both. If I would have the like the HSS more, I had done it as I made my decision on the bridge humbucker tones (they were both quite different sounding even though they're the same model). I came home with the HH:
I go gaga over rosewood neck guitars. I owned a Luke before but the neck warped and when it came back from EBMM, it didn't sound like it did with the old neck, so I sold it. I liked the fact that new Luke III models are spec'ed with passives (I liked my Luke's EMG pickups just fine though). In the interim I also owned a Steve Morse Y2D. Great guitar just not as comfortable for me to play as a Luke so I sold it. So there you have it, a perfect storm:
A Luke
Passive pickups
Rosewood neck
Humbucker in the neck position
$325 off sale price vs the maple neck model
So you see, I HAD to have this unexpected new guitar day
