I'm going to see the [mostly] original Queensryche this Sat (my buddy did a press interview with the new vocalist and got us tix and a photo pass for the show) and am wondering what they're like. He got a pre-release download of their new album and he says that it's pretty decent (as in "somewhere between Empires and Promised Land" decent -- but maybe without some of the memorable songs). I'm just curious if anyone's seen them on this new tour. I have to drive a couple of hours to see the show and frankly wouldn't be going if he hadn't scored the tix and told me he wanted to go with me (since our musical tastes are very similar and we get along so well).

P.S. I wouldn't go to see Geoff Taint's "Queensryche" if he offered to feed me truffles and hire call girls to entertain me. I blame Taint for most of QR's woes over the past couple of decades. At one time (many moons ago), they were my favorite prog metal band by far. Dream Theater kind of dethroned them with Images and Words in '91 though.

I have only seen clips of QR with the new guy, but it by far resembles the older QR that everyone loved so much.

I think you will be glad that you went

Nice! Thanks man!

I had some friends that went to the show here a couple of weeks a go and they said they sounded great.

Just got back from the show. Super late here. Will post a more in-depth review later, but suffice it to say that the show kicked MAJOR ass. New vocalist is AWESOME. They did most of The Warning and half of Mindcrime and others.... and he ROCKED it all. Wow! Rockenfield is an ANIMAL as well. I went to the show thinking QR was dead. But I think it's been resurrected. They played for over an hour and a half and didn't quit until after midnight. There were at least six songs in the encore. These guys ROCKED and I'll be buying a copy of the new album when its out (this Tuesday?). Go see them if you are at all interested.

Mark Slaughter also rocked it and still has the pipes after all these years, and the Eric Estrada-looking lead singer of Great White was good too.

Some quick thoughts and memories of the tunes played...

First, let me repeat that the new lead singer (Todd LaTorre) was awesome and delivered all night long. You could tell that towards the end of the night he'd been pushing it, but to do so many of the old songs so well, it was just amazing and everyone I talked to at the show (many of whom play in bands and most of us have covered QR tunes at one point in our lives) was blown-away at his singing. Like I mentioned earlier, Rockenfield killed it and was/is just such an aggressive drummer that I spent most of the night watching him and the vocalist. Jackson, Wilton and Lundgren were very solid and played well. I would have liked to have seen more of Parker's lead work, but Michael took most of the leads. We got to the show during the Slaughter set and Lundgren was actually just out in the crowd by himself, checking them out. So we stopped and chatted with him. He seems like a nice "kid". Queensryche was VERY tight all night long and there were only a very few miscues that I noticed. I heard that it was only their 2nd or 3rd show on the tour, so that's pretty impressive.

Some of the tunes I remember them playing (and playing WELL):

Take Hold of the Flame
Warning
Child of Fire
Roads to Madness
The Prophecy
Queen of the Ryche (opened with this)
Walk in the Shadows
Speak
The Needle Lies
Waiting for 22
Eyes of a Stranger
Jet City Woman
Silent Lucidity (brought a local gal who'd lost her husband up on stage and sang this to her)
Empires (ended the night with this)
One from the new album (didn't catch the name but it was good and I'll be buying the CD, despite not having bought a QR album since the disappointment Mindcrime II).

The new Queensryche album came out today. Downloaded from Amazon and am still digesting. I dig it so far though. "Fallout" is my favorite so far and I've replayed it several times. Need to get away from my desk where I can crank it up though.

I'm digging it so far. I've been listening to it at my desk today, so I haven't really be able to open it up. But I do like what I've heard so far and "Fallout" is my current favorite.

Just so you know, his name is Geoff Tate. A "taint" refers to the area between the balls and anus, although I dont blame you if got that mixed up.

Pretty sure he did that on purpose.

I think that's also where he gets the inspiration for the taste of his wines. :D

;)

As the poster above correctly surmised... my "slip-of-the-tongue" was intentional.

Geoff definitely resides between a pair of sweaty balls and and ass, he 'Taint capable of his once-legendary vocal range (not even close), he 'Taint as great as he thinks he is, and he 'Taint the lead singer of THE REAL Queensryche anymore

I'm sure he just pisses in bottles and calls it "wine".

Just like he turds out something and calls it an "album". :D

Creating the perfect whine is something that he seems pretty good at........

True dat!

And judging from the Cabaret tour vid I saw, he's got some killer cheese to serve with that wine. :D

As a matter of fact... I think that the new "jumping the shark" should be called "going Cabaret".

Oh, he want all Cabaret!!!
