getting ready to pull the plug on another ceriatone 1987 with thier stock transformers. before i do, any love for the Marshall Origin? i havent heard hardly anything about them

I've been thinking about a Ceriatone for awhile. I was thinking about getting a 2204 and getting Dan Gower to mod it but maybe I should just get a Chupa. I haven't really heard anything one way or the other on the Origin series

I was not impressed with the origins that I tried. I spent a half hour on two of them, and they weren't as full as I led on to believe. It's like halfway there IMO. Yet again I have not tried the ceriatone.

but tubes could be a big factor, speaker, etc. So maybe there is more potential.

Origin would be a huge step backwards, IMO. Cheap junk. There's better options, for sure. Ceriatone is built much better, and superior tone. I found the Origin bland, sterile, and cheap sounding. Like a wanna be amp.

Bland and sterile for sure. The whole amp felt cheap too, not just sound.

There are a ton of amps out there. I don't know your budget, but splawn has some good ones, the JJ Jr. Looks promising,

If you are on a really tight budget, I did all of the SLO mods to a 20 watt jet city and it ripped. But if you aren't willing to do it yourself it's cost prohibitive IMO.

cool sounds like my initial thought of another ceriatone is the way to go. i love the one i have and is my main recording amp. will be interesting to hear the difference of their stock trannys vs the mercurys in mine.

If you grab one post back what you think in comparison. I've been thinking about grabbing a Ceriatone

I had a Yeti 100, and it ripped. I don't think you can go wrong with one, (unless you need a loop, make sure to it upgraded).

I'm in the Splawn camp too, (have a Quick Rod 100). Can't beat them for what they go for used).

If you want cheap, no frills, a Jet City will eat the Origin's lunch.

My advice is to order the amp without the transformers and have aftermarket trannys put in. I had a Ceriatone Cali modded 2204 clone PT fry rather quickly on me. Stock Ceriatone stuff. Put in the cheaper Classictone (both pt/ot) and it sounded MUCH better...more like real Marshall mids.
Just my experience though.

I would love to hear Splawn v. Ceiratone comments and comparisons.

I have been doing a lot of builds. I think for the run of the mill stuff Mojotone parts are slightly edging out cireatone stuff quality wise. Especially transformers. My AA165 Fender clone build came with first class components.

If you are getting one built Ceriatone has more options and more exclusive stuff.

Did they do the Cali mod at Ceriatone?

its just $200 more for the assembled amp with transformers so im gonna give em a shot. im curious. if it blows ill put in something good.

Yeah $200 isn't bad for assembly. I can't build one in four hours. Assuming that I were to value my time at $50.

The Mojotone 800 clone is worth it.

I have one and it is really really nice; full and girthy and no harshness whatsoever. Very high quality parts.

If you are going to build it yourself, just beware the documentation they provide is very basic. My father in-law (who is pretty handy and good with a soldering gun) had to check out other kits just to make sense of everything.

Oh! And the head cabinet is gorgeous.

Can’t go wrong with Mojotone.

Nope, this was done up in Canada by Mr. Fortin. I bought it secondhand from a RTer who had the mod done. After it failed, my local tech talked with Mike on how to navigate his work to install the new PT. Mike was great to deal with.

think im going for the yeti. i like the plexi option to use with boosts or the clipping diodes as other options. now on the fence, 100 or 50??

get an AH-50 Deluxe then post a review ;) Personally I would go with a 50 watt. For me thats the sweet spot on wattage.
