A beautiful build. Major motivation. I want to do a SLO project and seeing this has made me really want to do it. I think your right (JasonP)though in making it easier with PCB's. After looking at the parts list I conclude that there are LOTS of them from lots of places. I built a bassman a while back and think this is doable though. I have talked with Weber regarding kits. They have the Heather deal going (not sure what transformers) but it seems OK. And I have talked with C3Amps and they will put together a kit with O'Netics iron. They would even do sequential kits if I wanted to string it out a bit for cost. So I could get a power board kit... preamp kit... chassis kit.... etc.

Which way should I go? I want it to kick &%$# . Can those with experience with this offer some advice?

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the link to that thread. That is an amazing project and I hope to hear a clip or two from it. All of the metal work is a bit daunting for me at this time. I don't have enough space where I am right now to set up the shop. That is why I was thinking about the kit or semi kit route with something high gain. Not get too spread out but still have a project. I am still looking and listening. I never seem to learn much when I am doing the talking:)

There are a lot of guys here who have made the kits in what not. I have thought about doing a Metro and hot rod for years.

sliverworks, there is so many directions to go in that it is really up to you and how much money you want to spend as well as really what do you want the outcome to be.

Like pots for example. Go alpha maybe spend $20 bucks or go with the what the real SLO uses, $125.00. Granted you get what you pay for. They do sound different. This goes for what caps, resistors.. etc. you choose. If I had to do it over I would have got the smash relay pre-board but built my own power board to except the big filter caps and use the clarostat's. I'm now converting my amp to relays. C3 chassis all the way.

Hope this helps.

I give steve major props for that shit!! So cool! Can't wait to see the finished amp.

here is the pictures of relay and LED's I added. Installed different power tube sockets as on of the pins broke off the previous ones. Also added correct bias caps to stock slo.

Next thing I will be looking into is dc heaters and maybe trying the teb weber heather relay schematic for less channel bleed.

That build looks great. How does it sound?

Hey dude! I will get a video up shortly.

Just wanted to also give Rob from C3 amps a big thank you for everything. http://www.c3amps.com/index.htm
He has a lot of great stuff and is very helpful. He does very high qualty work. All the stuff I've gotten from him has been awesome. So if you need anything first check him out.

great work! I am looking into building a slo clone myself. Do you have the wiring diagrams and layouts for the turret borad or did you just follow the factory slo wiring diagram. Thanks for the help.

Yes I used most of the info on the sloclone forum. From most of parts needed to build to layouts and schematics. I haven't added up the total cost as of yet but I'm going to say I spent about $1000+ on this project. Plus all the countless hours soldering, problem solving and re soldering.. drilling and laying out everything. Took much longer and was much harder then I thought it would be.

I will tell you that the layout and schematic are wrong on the site. Still can be followed just have to watch for a couple things. I used the stock diagram and also 2 others I found on the internet to help me along the way.
If you don't want clean and effects loop just to simply things that would be cool to build it that way.
Good luck!

My compliments on your work. For being your first amp, you really did a nice clean job.

Thanks dude! I figure you might as well take your time and do it nice if you are going to spend the money.

I'm starting wish I would have some how either made my own power board or mounted the caps to the same "power" side of the chassis. I think I'm picking up a little hum running the wires across the chassis like this as there is 500 volts running through them. I guess the hum is about just a little less then the hiss on the OD. On the clean you have to have the the master at 8 to tell.
Still bugs me I can't get the channel bleed figured out... I'm going to check caps tomorrow and see if anything is wrong there. Granted you can bearly tell, it still bothers me. If everything checks out ok I'm saying fuck it and going for relays.

AFAIK the channel bleed is part of the SLO's design, the original has the same.

Cleaned up some wiring. Getting ready for the head shell.
Switched over to relays and have no more channel bleed using the Teb Weber schematic. A couple pictures. Recorded some video that I will post up shortly.
