I just got raped by UPS for ordering a Seymour Duncan custom pickup that shipped to Canada.

For a $160 pickup UPS charged me $96, of which $60 was their brokerage fees.

Unfucking-believable.

Pure criminals.

Oh man, that sucks. Yeah, I NEVER use UPS to Canada. Brokerage fees are just legal extortion.

Never mind that.
The last package they delivered to my house looked like it fell off the truck on the freeway.
I'm sure the stressed-out employees enjoy throwing and kicking the boxes around.
I ship FedEx. UPS sucks.

Is that not something you know before you buy?

UPS is the worst, I shipped my Gibson les paul custom for a trade deal and they broke the headstock and refused to pay anything on the insurance just because it was not packed by them. even made me pay for the return shipping.

Yes I know UPS is the worst.

It was from the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. They didn't specify who they would ship with. Only when the pickup was ready did I get a shipping notice from them with UPS tracking. When I saw that I knew I was screwed.

In hind sight I probably should have contacted them to see who they would use. And if they told me UPS, I would have told them please use USPS. Otherwise please refund my money right now.

That sucks, the shipper should know this and offer USPS as an option.

I have a battle going with them right now too. I shipped two tool box drawers that I sold on eBay. The guy offered me a round number for two drawers including shipping, the UPS 'get a quote' box told me shipping would be $68 and I agreed to the price. Once the guy paid and I printed the shipping label it was $145. Two days after it was delivered (8 days total) I get an email from UPS saying they charged me another $78. They gave revised dimensions as their basis, which were absolutely bullshit - I measured it three times and I've been running a tape measure for 30 years. The box was 32 pounds and they show the billable weight at 115 pounds.

I stopped using UPS due to this kind of crap years ago. Had to take them to small claims in So Cal once to get reimbursed. Now I advise everyone NOT to ever use them. This thread proves why they suck, once again.

I only use fed ex. I'm not going to say they are without fault but they are worlds better than the brown stain trucks

I stopped using UPS and Fedex years ago because of this. I only buy from US sellers that offer USPS. Never had an issue with USPS or CPS. Brokerage fees are a total scam.

You find out after you buy what the percentage is, by then it's too late. How it's based on the price of the package I'll never know, brokering is just paper work, whether it's a paper clip or a diamond the process is the same. Sellers often state, now, that they're not responsible for whatever happens at the border. They didn't know about this either.

I just recently started using Fed Ex and closed my UPS account due to the idiocy that exists at UPS. So far, so good.

When this happens, tell the UPS guy you want to be the broker for you item. He will leave you a form. You call and do the the brokering. You then go to a UPS office and pay and pick up your item.

Might not be worth the effort for a small amount, but i had a bill of close to $500 once on a $2000 amp purchase. Came out to only the GST amount, saved $400.

It happenned to my son about a month ago, he bought a $1000 and received a call from UPS stating he owed $395. Calls me and was freaking out. I told him to do that and it came out to $56 or something.

They really are crooks.

DHL,Fedex,USPS is the way to go.

But USPS is the cheapest i have found.

Only way to ship to Canada.
I support my home team. :D

Only use the Brown truckers in the lower 48 for big heavy items.

Under 2# it's USPS, otherwise FedEx. Fuck UPS. Straight up criminals.

I recently shipped a Peavey 5150 and I removed the power tubes and wrapped them and the footswitch and put them back inside with more stuffing. I just took the head into FedEx and said "package and ship with $500 insurance please". It was only $64 and I'm not sweating the delivery like usual.
