UPS killed my Archon

I agree the tranny mounting plate being bent is no big deal. I've seen it on a Friedman SS100 I had for a few days. Same thing happened in shipping. I unscrewed the tranny, straightened the mounting tabs and screwed it back down. Took about 10 minutes and was back to normal.

As far as the front trim, are the screws stripped out of it or something? I'm not sure how those are even attached.

It wasn't screwed. It was glued.

Bent trannys are common to many amps. The shippers just set them down hard on end, and that does it.

But you should def return it. There's no telling what else got jarred loose in that drop (or drops)

Ouch. Nothing worse than the excitement of NAD to find that. It's happened to me more than once with every carrier. Normally due to improper packing though. Never had an issue with factory boxed gear.

My old 2204 head was in my friends vw van on the floor in the back. He got broadsided hard and the amp flew across the van hitting the other side hard, but there was no damage except a pair of beloved mullard xf4 power tubes which didn't work anymore.

Sure it can. Weak mounting brackets and a heavy transformer are still under the effects of gravity, regardless of packaging.

Good old UPS. I can understand the trannies bending the chassis from a hard drop, sure. But the logo coming off? Usually there's no force to a logo that is on a front plate, so that's weird, unless the box sat in the sun getting hot for a very long time, then I could see the glue failing...maybe. But that's the first time I've seen that...ever.

Good luck with the next one, might be time to specify another shipper, and extra packing.

Well, I didn't pay almost $2000 for a NEW amp that I would want to do that to. Maybe it's just me but I prefer to have NEW amps be NEW with no damage whatsoever.

I will be getting replacement today. I noticed they shipped via Fedex this time.

I can understand that. To each their own.

They dont bother me at all and get bent in shipping constantly. (Ive shipped probably 30 amps.)

Its just a metal tab on either end, youd think they would have made them stronger by now to avoid this.

It took all of two minutes to bend back and then I didnt have to ship the amp again. My Hagen was brand new as well, however mine didnt have any damage but the bent trannies.

I know what you mean with new vs used. If you pay brand new prices, you expect it to be perfect. Nothing wrong with that.
