Dang! Just bought a mint condition BE100 ...and as usual rush home to check it out...only to find out UPS must have been rough with the package and one of the corners is cracked and tolex ripped along the crack! Definitely dulls the sort of Christmas Day excitement of getting a nice new piece of gear!

I cringed when the seller sent me a UPS tracking number..as they tend to be gorillas with packages...so when I sell gear I NEVER use UPS ...only FedEx which has never ruined anything one me.

Fortunately the amp is fine....so long shot here ...but: Does anyone by any chance have an extra BE100 Headbox for sale???

Yeah already called them...$300 ..which would be on top of what I've already paid..which kinda sucks since I had had nothing to do with the damage. Not sure if others have bought and sold as much gear as I have, but one thing I have learned is: Insurance, and particularly with UPS, seems to be a waste of money as them paying out is worse than pulling teeth! In my experience you'd probably only ever see a dime if they completely lost the item ...oh well ...I need to make sure in the future if I buy something high dollar that the deal is contingent upon them using FedEx and NOT UPS.

was it packed well? are you going to put in a claim for it? i would...

It was in the original box in good condition, which seems to have original packing...which was adequate, but not Bomb-Proof like I tend to pack things. So the weird part is only the Shipper can get reimbursed for damage because they paid for the insurance ... so the onus is on the Seller to get reimbursed..though they've already been paid for the amp.

But in any event, I know exactly how this plays out...UPS sends someone out to the house to inspect the package. The will see the box is undamaged --it was the weight of the amp, and its momentum when being tossed on the truck that cracked open the joint I'm betting-- So UPS will say "Well the box looks fine it was the packaging that was at fault" and they won't pay a cent.

the shipper needs to submit a claim to ups

take detailed pics of the packing.

they will need an invoicce estimate to replace or repair the headshell.

if ups denies the claim due to insufficent packing then the seller owes you a new headshell.

This! Seller should submit the claim ASAP, when I sold an amp and it got damaged I was on it right away.

If the seller can't get reimbursed from UPS then it is likely his fault for not packaging it correctly and should be paying for the new headshell.

Thanks all..yes at least the seller has been responsive and has filed a claim.

Wierd part is he said UPS wants to come pick up the box with the amp in it...which I am not comfortable with as I don't want to not have the amp, and not have been reimbursed for the fairly sizable chunk of change Ive paid. I'm not giving it to USP until i've been reimbursed for what I paid. Hopefully he got that part wrong.

Like I said, I know how UPS operates, he wont see a dime since the box was undamaged....even if the packaging was bullet-proof...which it wasn't, it was standard retail packaging.

They usually send a representative to inspect the packaging and the amplifier on-site.

When I had a similar claim they did not take the amplifier away.

Even if there is no visible outside damage, they will still pay a claim if there is sufficient internal packaging.

But they will only pay if there is sufficient internal packaging according to their specifications.

Mojo sent your way ... hope all resolves quickly and in your favour!

I did a claim with UPS along time back and they paid me for the damage to my amp that they destroyed. That being said.....I use UPS all the time here at work and still use them to ship guitars and amps, and I dont have any issues. I dont think they are any different than any other shipper. I do feel for you....Hope it all works out.

This..and UPS is usually full of shit because they will ALWAYS deny the claim based on subjectivity. Bottom line is you will take a chance on any shipper when you file a claim. I don't ebay anymore because of a UPS related issue..box was punctured, speaker torn..only could have happened with something going through the box. Fuckers still denied my claim..unbelievable. Then I never got the amp back from the buyer or UPS..needless to say I clawed the refund back and pulled my accounts from ebay/paypal. I saw the pictures of the amp and UPS sent someone out there but still haven't seen my amp. Waiting on their move..but such a bad experience that I'm just done.

Yup..been through this before...insurance is pretty much a scam as they intend to never pay out on it...regardless of what shipper is used. Just in my experience Fed Ex damages things FAR less than UPS, which is my preferred outcome..lol. I actually had a UPS driver dump a 1968 Marshall cabinet out of the truck onto my snowy driveway...destroyed. Then when my wife called to complain..the driver came back to berate her for calling and complaining!! I think we got her fired over that one, or assigned a different route at least.

Even though insurance is virtually a scam, on a ~$3K item you kind of HAVE to do it, just in case they completely lose the item, or literally run over it with the truck. It will all work itself out in the end I am sure, but it will be painful...and it definitely dulls the excitement of getting something you've wanted for a long time, spent a lot of money on, and had pent-up anticipation for though.

I watched a ups driver spike a package on my front porch. My heart sank & I exploded out the door, thinking it was an nos tube I was expecting. should've reported him, but I'm not out to f with someone's job.

I'm with you...I am very sensitive to messing with anyones livelihood, but such blatant disregard for doing your job with even the slightest amount of competence, or respect for other peoples property is where that line gets crossed...I think I'd rather have someone spit in my food than destroy a 1968 Marshall 4x12 cabinet! ..which is now literally a pile of plywood in my garage.

One of the main reasons I have passed on some really good deals. I have been burned by USPS & USP. I had insured on all shipments and never received anything on my claims. I had to give the money back to the buyers and I never received my items I sold. Money also wasted on insurance. It came down to them losing my packages. Their tracking system did not coincide with the tracking I was seeing online. Somebody probably took my shit home thinking I would get My money back from the claim.

I would've reported him and I wouldn't have lost a minute of sleep having done so. So what if he loses his job? A job is a privilege, NOT a right.

If his job meant anything to him at all, he should've bloody well done it properly and not fucked with people's belongings.

My Dad always said "if someone can't do their job, they shouldn't have it." I have never had a problem calling someone for not being able to do their job just like I would expect someone to call me out for not doing mine. The various postal services in this country sacrifice care for speed because everyone is trying to be the fastest which is why I pack everything I ship to be near bomb proof.

Oh man, that sucks. I've had problems with both FedEx and UPS smashing guitar cases. Sometimes these guys try to be sneaky and claim they tried to deliver a package and I wasn't home (even though I was). I assume they just want to go home early or something. Haven't had any problems with USPS though, just their tracking isn't that great.
