At the end of the day, it's none of the government's fucking business what I choose to buy and it comes down to a personal issue between self and wood. Your tax dollars hard at work, while shit roams the streets and people are living under an overpass. Fuck the US government.

If America does not return to constitution based government, its all over. You have kids? Grand kids? They will enjoy poverty because we will not do what's right.

If you are afraid of libertarians at least vote conservative this year. Liberal democrats are destroying our country. Just look at the debt we've incurred since January 2009.

A government worried about illegal wood but not the $7,000,000 per minute of debt they are creating is sickening.

Anytime ANYONE in government points to a class of citizens and says they are not paying their fair share look out, you class is next.

I don't want to wade too far into these waters, as I am not even American so my interest is solely related to the knock-on impacts the U.S. economic situation has on Canada.

However, I don't think it is fair to point at the Democrats and blame the debt and deficits of the past few years squarely on them.

Two terms of Republican rule under George Bush left a legacy of debt. Multiple wars (still being financed by the issuance of U.S. debt), lax regulations around the financial sector, decreases in Corporate taxes and taxes on the rich, etc. Then, layer on top of Bush's legacy the world financial crisis in 2008 (somewhat attributable to the lax financial regulations Bush oversaw for two terms!) and a significant oil spill in the Gulf, and Obama inherited an absolute economic shit show that was entirely not of his doing.

I am NOT defending Obama here at all. I can't point to a lot of good that his come from his first term. However, to try to blame the debt that has been building since 2008/2009 on Obama is just not right. He has to pay for the wars that the Republicans started, and he had no choice but to put in place a significant economic stimulus after the 2008 crisis in order to try to kick start the economy (the Republicans would have had to do the exact same thing - regardless of the nonsense they argue and the games they play in the House and Senate).

I find all politicians to be total scumbags. As much as I despise them, I dont blame any party for the state that this country is in.It is we the people that that fund these douchebags and allow them to do anything they want, without fear of being punished. The people are so busy arguing over party lines that they have forgotten that we would be well within our rights to show up, en masse, and tell them all that their dis-service is no longer needed.
Wishful thinking though, because it wont ever happen in my lifetime.

i could have sworn i read somewhere that guitars made of the banned woods which were manufactured before the outlawing of the usage said woods would be grandfathered in and, therefor, not subject to seizure...

I think some people need to read the article a little closer. They're saying they need to re-work it to try to get around the issue it has created. I love how politics can blind people's ability to read and reason.

+1 That is how I read the first link as well.

Hell, they can take your cash if they think you have too much of it on you. That's America for ya.

Look at the national debt before Obama came into office and where it is now. Agreed he inherited a lot. He spent more.

"decreases in Corporate taxes and taxes on the rich, etc" No corporation ever pays taxes, ever, in any country. For example, you increase taxes on the oil companies and what do you think will happen? Will the ceo and board of directors take pay cuts? Nope, they raise the cost of their product. This is not a political view, it is a fact everyone should know and understand. Corporations create jobs and create wealth. Again, no politiacal spin. corporations should pay for the public services they use and be held accountable for their actions but that is it.

"Taxes on the rich" Remember, in any country taxes are the government confiscating your money. We are all free to give more to the government, they accept donations, yet very few do.

What defines rich? If you make more money than me, I could call you rich and take your money. This is exactly what is implied by your statement. A "fair" tax policy would be a flat percentage regardless of wealth, not the current progressive tax scheme that hinders wealth creation which = job creation.

When a government spends more than it takes in, just like you and I, eventually we will be out of credit and go bankrupt, look at Greece.

Perhaps its just how most Americans think, small government = small problems, big government = big problems.

I apologize for hijacking the thread and I am off the soapbox.

It's alarmist. It's conjecture. It's anti-government. It's a Fox News article. Shocking.

Here's a video with the Gibson CEO absolutely ripping into the Obama administration for this...

I don't feel any pity for Henry...and anybody that knows him will tell you the same. This man is one of the more pathetic indidviduals a person could ever meet. I've known literally over a dozen people who have put their heart and soul in Gibson guitars only to have this clown come in one day in a bad mood and fire entire depts..on a whim. Most people that work at Gibson are implicity told not to talk to Henry. Had a friend years ago...got a job there, bumps into Henry, tells him how appreciative he is to be working for Gibson...Henry nodded, said your welcome and then told his assistant to fire they guy. Most don't even know that Henry lost his controlling interest in the company because his wife walked in on him boning his secretary. Went to her in the settlement. Ask all the mom and pop...or out of business mom an pop stores how they feel about Henry.

People wanna rip on Obama fine...that's your business but please don't hold up Henry and some kind of saint on a mission. This guy is pure slim.

And please somebody explain to me the last time Fox News was worthy of reporting anything.

Lets say the law is retroactive. Lets say they try to take Ted "Gonzo" Nugget's vintage guitars. Lets say he cares thru his threat if reelected. It is all making sense ....
Miss information(Whore of Babylon)is entertaining....

The real reason is this: Fox does not hide it's political leanings. ABC, CNN, CBS, and NBC lie to you and tell you they are unbiased when they are not.

If all we're talking about now is government and fox news move that shit to OT :uzi:
