Using a Roland VG-99 with Herbert

I'm very seriously considering buying a VG-99 for the alternate tuning function.

My thinking is, instead of toting five guitars to the gig, I can use this magic box and bypass all of that stuff.

The downside being that goofy wart I'll have to mount on my guitar.

Does anyone have any experience with using this thing?

I'm thinking I'll be able to bypass the amp models and guitar model stuff and JUST use it for alternate tuning purposes with Herbie's distortion shining through.

Get the RMC Saddles instead, with the Polydrive 2 system. it comes in a breakout box and works incredibly well. Much better tracking, almost no modification to your instrument, and you cant even tell its in!. You could also use it with any midi controlled rack like the Axon stuff. I would highly recommend it. i have it on one of my parkers and in my breedlove. works perfectly. But tonally it may be far from what a real guitar sounds like.

Thanks for the info on RMC. I'll look into that further but on first glance it doesnt appear to have a system that works with a PRS Stoptail (non adjustable saddles).

The part I quoted here? Can I assume you mean that since its a different pickup being used to "virtually retune" my guitar that the tone will be not as good as what I'm used to hearing?

I guess I assumed it'd be pretty close, but I guess if even switching standard pickups can yield dramatic results, I should expect a completely different pickup system to affect it as well.

I didnt consider that.

I guess its just like ANY pickup swap. No matter how much research you do you can never really tell what your guitar will sound like with the new one in there. Leap of faith is all you have.
