Using Line Input and Speaker Input at the same time

Hey Guys,

I am considering a Two Notes Torpedo Live for recording and silent jamming. I am currently running a dual amp rig (Mesa Mini Recto and Hughes and Kettner Tubemiester 18). With the Tubemiester I can drop it into silent mode no problem. So the loadbox portion would be for the Boogie. However, I would like to use the cabinet simulator for both.

Is it possible to use both inputs on the Torpedo live at the same time. For instance, say I run the Boogie into the speaker input and the Tubemiester into the line input. Can I then run both inputs through the speaker simulator and then out to my recording interface/headphones?

There was an earlier thread with the same question and no, unfortunately the line input gets physically activated by plugging in the line ie the jack itself disconnects the loadbox output (amp remains loaded btw).

FWIW the VB-101 has a selectable input via software in the setup menu however this isn't saved on a per patch basis.

BTW my understanding was that in "silent mode", the tubemeister outputs via their analog speaker sim circuit. You will get a better result leaving the speaker sim function to the Torpedo ie an uncompensated signal....if I am misinformed, please advise, we only worked with one briefly for a in-store demo. It sounded excellent btw.

Some possible options,

1) you could connect the boogie to the Torpedo load and then take a line out (amp's f/x loop send) to an a/b box that selects either the line level from either amp to the Torpedo. With a selector that can be midi (Lehle for example), the patch could select the amp.

2) you could add a second sim, a Torpedo Cab for example for the tubemeister which while expensive, isn't that much more than a Lehle with midi. This has the advantage that you could blend the two amps and program the relative volumes per patch.

3) You could add a third party load for the Boogie and then a/b the output into the Torpedo line

4) You could use a Radial Headbone and run both heads as if you had 2 heads and one cabinet

5) it would be technologically possible to mod the Torpedo but this would a) void the warranty and b) not every tech is as hot as he thinks he is and there is some serious and sensitive digital electronics inside so caveat emptor.

The info about how the different inputs work are not in the manual, I'll write an FAQ about that.

Hi,

in the other thread you wrote that it would be possible to use both inputs with the VB101.
i would like to use the amp input for my 50w Plexi (crunch sound) and a PSA preamp in the line input for clean sounds.

In the systems menu you can switch between both inputs but I didn't manage to activate both at a time...

is it doable what i want?

thanks

Sorry but you can't have them simultaneously even on the VB-101, there is no mixing parameter between the sources and there is a relay to commute from one to the other (you can hear it actually when you change the input).

The difference with Live is that you can switch the input by software the VB-101, so you can have both inputs connected, while connecting the Line input on the Live disconnects the loadbox input automatically. Let me know if I need to explain differently. ;)

Ok, here's a mad scientist idea.... As noted above I have a two amp rig. What if instead of the Torpedo Live, I went with the Torpedo CAB and an attenuator?

My thinking is I could run the boogie into the attenuator and then the line out from the attenuator into a mixer. Then run the tubemiester into the mixer as well. Then take the line out from the mixer into the CAB. From there, I could run headphones out of the CAB or run the CAB's line out to my recording interface.

It should work, right?

I see no problem in doing that, you will have to adjust the level of both amplifier in the mixer so you get the good... well... mix. ;)

We happen to release a VERY GOOD attenuator/loadbox/re-amping/DI device called Torpedo Reload these days. ;)
