So I've been curious about the Friedman style of using V30's on bottom and G12M RI's on top in a 4x12 for a while now.
I have a stack of Marshall 425 cabs, so I took the 425b and removed the bottom 2 G12C's and replaced them with 2 UK made Vintage 30's that I found.
It sounds phenomenal! I play heavy hard rock through an EL34 Bogner Shiva, and it's nice & thick with a tight low end.
Compared to my usual preferred mix of V30/H30 Anniv. in an X-pattern, the mids are thicker and more compressed, and the low end is just as tight, but never boomy.
I wish I would have tried this a long time ago. I couldn't stop playing through this cab this morning.
Do you think I'd notice much of a difference if I tried some G12M RI's on top instead of the G12C's?
