Thought I'd compare these under the mic. Cab was an Orange PPC212 closed back. Not exactly sure where the mic was pointed but it was the same for both speakers(I made a template) but it was 1/2" off the grill cloth and pointed at the edge of the dust cap for the most part. Damn grill on the Orange is so thick I'm surprised any sound gets through.  Speakers used were a 1997 Celestion V30 with many, many hours and a Celestion Century Vintage with about 4 hours at the most.
Celestion Century Vintage followed by the regular V30, Then both panned hard left and right and finally both in a mix.

FWIW, They don't sound as drastically different in the room to my old ass ears as they do in the clips.

UPDATE: Same riff. Two more speakers added. Different speaker combo in the "in the mix" portion. Bass, middle and treble are at noon for all clips.

I love that riff.

They sound great mixed. I don't think the Centuries are made anymore are they?

Take a lot of work this kind of thing, so much appreciated.
Without reading the whole post, started the clip and liked the first speaker, then hearing the change to the second, verified that the V30 is a powerful beast. Then read the post and realised you'd used the Century first. Doh!
Still, that removed my bias and tells me the Century is no slouch.
What do you prefer the sound of, and do they feel different?

WOW, the Century sounds great.
I'm surprised how much more I like it over the V30.
In this test the V30 loses, imo.

Great job on that.
Thanks.

The first one is A LOT better to my ears, the second one sounds thin and kinda fizzy in comparison. The combination at end sounds KILLER

Thanks man, I believe they discontinued the regular Century but still make the Century Vintage. I like the way they sound and the lightweight is AWESOME! My empty Peavey VTM/Butcher cab weighs 62 pounds. I have a lightweight aluminum cab loaded with 4 Celestion Century Vintage speakers that weighs 44 pounds.

I love them both. In my Orange 2x12, I slightly prefer the regular V30's. In a 4x12, I slightly prefer my Century Vintage loaded cab. They do sound much more different from each other in the clip than in the room. I imagine the Centurys will smooth out a bit with more time. The V30's are 18 years old. Playing both together sounds awesome. As for the feel, close enough for me. I'd say the Century is a little tighter.

That was kind of shocking to me.....I've always thought of myself as a V30 guy, especially in Orange cabs, but those Century speakers are just gritty and sick. Thanks for doing this. Riff in the mix sounded great, dude. You're a monster.

Thanks for clarifying the speaker difference. I have a V30 loaded 2x12 that's pretty damn heavy near 80 lbs., the Century Vintages would really help lighten it up. Is there a big difference in price between V30s and the CVs?

Recorded two more speakers. Same riff. Different combination of speakers on the "in the mix" section.

After listening some more, the Century sounds a bit scooped, but in a good way. It's letting more frequencies come through more evenly, and you can hear the grit of the distortion in a pleasing way.
The V30's are more mid pushed, less of the distortion's grit and fuzzy edge is coming through, and there seems to be less low mid from the V30's in this comparo.

I may have to get one and used it with just one of my V30's in the 2x12.
Thanks again for doing this test.

In the second clip the speaker order was G12K-85, V30, Century Vintage, G12T-75 and I used the G12t-75 and Century Vintage panned hard left and right in the mix.
