I can’t imagine having such complete control and mastery over anything in life, especially the guitar. I mean just wow.
 
He could have played that with his toes, one footed. lol
 
Another thing I like about this, and I hate to say it since I know Steve's whammy craziness has always been a trademark of his style and he loves using it a lot...I liked the mostly (other than the occasional push down on the trem) "whammy free" playing. I feel like this forced him to compensate a bit in other ways with his left hand, and the results were fantastic.
 
And to think I spend all this time working on picking. :doh:

That was awesome. I have the same shoulder issue and it's why I sold my 335. The lower bout cocked my shoulder even more.
 
So true when he said playing hard is slowing the playing. I've learned to play relax, with slightly touching the strings, it improved my playing and speed.
 
There’s still a big part of me that’s a Vai fanbo, the 15-year old in me, but several times on the first watch I was like, “Dude, is he miming this?”, but then you watch the vibrato and it all lines up perfectly with the audio, or the whammy bar usage, those little things that would take months to mime perfectly. Just incredible.

In a world full of YouTube guitarists who get their views by miming parts over a pre-recorded lick, he just put every one of them to shame with the equivalent of having one hand tied behind his back.

And while I was on the fence with the first 4 PIA models, that onyx one is fucking SWEET.

Oh, someone asked previously about the Sustainer being on; he doesn’t have one on that guitar. Those are all the Vai Utopia pickups with those gaudy covers. Thankfully, Dimarzio has them in normal bobbins as well. I’m really interested in checking them out as the Evolution’s in my JEM are way too high output for a passive (for me) and the mid spike is insane.
 
I get a lot of flack for it, but I have never been team Vai (where lead playing is concerned) . It is impressive he played an entire song with one hand but he also used a ton of gain and has essentially always been a legato guy so it comes naturally. I LOVE his rythm playing however. I'm just not blowing my load over this like the entire guitar community seems to be. It was cool but I didn't sit through until the end.
 
How the hell no string noise from E/A without the right hand to mute? I call weird magic.
