Guess it sucks an old man would rip everyone of us a new A-Hole then on guitar

A good friend of mine has one of the originals like that. It's a killer guitar, and by far the best Ibanez I've ever seen or played.

And???????

I haven't realized that the man is 40+ until now... And... He still rocks

An old friend of mine took lessons from Gilbert when taught at GIT in 1989. He's over 40 but he's not a drug addict or raging alcoholic. Gilbert was a shred God when he was 16 years old.

Shawn Lane - Paul Gilbert - Buckethead

The three share so much similarities and they all knew each other

Really? Lane sounds nothing like the other 2, style or tone. And i like Gilbert a lot more than Buckethead. Other than Bucketheads shredding abilities i don't like much about him. His tone is egh, and his vibrato doesn't do it for me. And i thought all the lead playing on Chinese Democracy was pretty underwhelming. Just all my opinion of course.

Wasn't some of the leads on Chinese Dem. Ron Thal, though? Or did he joined after the CD was done?

Yes, Thal and some other guy as well. I really didn't like any of the playing though. And did they plug them into a POD and record the whole album?

Completely different styles, no doubt about it. What I meant is that they all had killer chops while teenagers, if you look at their right hand, Buckethead and PG are almost identical, again similar to Shawn Lane (excluding pick angle), their shredding is SO CLEAN, their left technique is similar...

As for Buckethead's vibrato, I think he's decent, not one of the best. But, Buckethead has the cleanest shredding I ever heard, so...

One of the Directors at my office ran GIT when Gilbert came as a student. He told the Education Director of GIT to hire Gilbert as a teacher because of his ability. He was also responsible for the series of commercials for MIT shown on MTV during the '80s...one of which was the Gilbert drill w/picks commercial. Our Systems Architect took classes with Gilbert and Gambale at GIT as well. Gilbert is actually on my list of guitarists I'm trying to interview....I am just trying to convince the powers that be of Gilbert's historical significance.
