Van Halen Collection II is out

I’m wondering if the digital versions are remastered. I did a comparison of AFU form Apple , Spotify and the Japanese Forever Young version CD that I have loaded on my phone and Forever Young version sounds better with a bit more bass
 
I'll have the CD version tomorrow so I can make a better comparison . I was listing to Balance on Apple music a few months ago and it sounded fantastic and that was thru the stereo in my company issued Ford Escape nonetheless. I was thinking how can a remaster really improve on this one.

It definitely feels like bass is added
 
I really like what they did to OU812 and 5150.
FUCK not so much, I think I'll stick with the original. Balance didn't need need a remaster at all and now sounds a little thinner. The original mix is weighty in the bottom.

i never really put much thought into why hagar wasn’t as cool as roth until now. not as witty and as clever as a lyricist with limited subject matter.
trying to be love song melodic in a “i think i’m bitchin” himbo pop way vs dave tribal shout sing scream style and pouring fuel on the fire with enough hyper-arrogance to match ed and al’s intensity. dave and the boys clawed themselves out of the gutter together. sam was more karaoke legend. i liked summer nights…

half the time i don’t even know what roth is singing, and don’t care because the early vh vibe is so intense!

Yeah but go to a concert and listen to Dave's diatribe about his dog catching Frisbees. Me and my buddy contemplated jumping off a.nearby bridge....
 
I listened to (most of) the 24 bit files last night and can say I am really happy with this set. Modern mastering is typically an exercise in slamming the levels and adding compression, but this remaster retains the dynamics. I totally agree the albums that benefit the most are 5150 and 0U812. The keyboards on the latter actually have some resonance and depth. F.U.C.K and Balance sound great as well, but not great or different enough to throw your originals in the bin. The "rarities" disc is a bit of a joke, with some of these songs already released previously.

They might have been concerned that Bruce Fairbairn's estate would sue. The reason VH never put that song on Balance is because Fairbairn wanted one third of the writing credit.

I like the babd with Dave better . It was beyond original. But Sammy was good too . He did have some weird lyrics at times . But man they made some good shit

Wow . I didn’t know this . Is that why Sammy and Ed awkward talked about finishing it ? To replace Bruce’s parts ?
