Roth vs Hagar VH are two different dimensions.

My CD copy came today . I’ll retract what I said on page 1 , OU812 here sounds better than the Japanese Forever Young version , I don’t have the original Warner Bros CD to compare it to. This new one is not mastered as loud as the Forever Young version but sounds nice and clear and doesn’t distort when cranking up the volume , bass and treble. The bass is present but you’re still gonna want to crank it up a bit. Haven’t got to the other CDs included yet

Is Sammy Hagar limited in the topics of the songs he writes? Seems like he has 4 or 5 topics and just recycles them
I’m still left reeling EVH chose that dude. Even as a young child I remember almost blacking out due to the alarming nature of receiving such traumatizing news. Hagar…. Oh my god….. I

I listened to (most of) the 24 bit files last night and can say I am really happy with this set. Modern mastering is typically an exercise in slamming the levels and adding compression, but this remaster retains the dynamics. I totally agree the albums that benefit the most are 5150 and 0U812. The keyboards on the latter actually have some resonance and depth. F.U.C.K and Balance sound great as well, but not great or different enough to throw your originals in the bin. The "rarities" disc is a bit of a joke, with some of these songs already released previously.
I agree. I listened to the recordings earlier and the low.end really fills in and the songs are warmer.

We need them to remaster Ratt "Invasion of Your Privacy" and Dokken's "Tooth and Nail"

I didn't understand it when they chose him but I loved 5150 when I heard it. Van Halen reinvented themselves and cor me personally, it is like two separate bands. Even Ed's gear, look, etc changed. I think he did the guitar hero thing and decided to be more than that.

The DLR stuff is my favorite but tons of Hagar songs I love.

Those were both remastered already . Tooth & Nail remastered twice and the Japanese mastering , Privacy remastered three times and the Japanese mastering . I’d recommend the current Dokken 4 disc box set and either of the last two Ratt box sets

When Hagar joined, I thought they'd sound ballsy like they did on "Humans Being". Talk about a letdown!

When Hagar joined VH it reminded me of when Jon Cain joined Journey.

The 3 early Perry albums are masterpieces in musical depth, other than a few radio hits with those albums they were truly albums that people knew the songs but it's not like they had turned into a pop band. Rolie leaves, Cain joins and then it was pop city from there on out. Although Escape is a great album

With Roth VH, it had cred, other than a few radio hits everyone just knew the songs. Hagar joins and they became really commercial. Probably my fav of the Hagar era was F.U.

Nothing wrong with that or Journey for that matter if that is what you dig but clearly two different bands with member changes. To me the worse thing about this remasters release is having to see Hagar out there running his yap.

That’s on Ed though not Sam . In Steve Rosen’s latest book Ed said the music changed because of him

I have seen many mixed feelings about the Collection II. Some record store owners have compared each Vinyl to the OG versions and that was helpful. FUCK seems to have been cleaned up and less muddy....and I've heard 5150 is a little less raw. Everything is not as pushed in volume, and a little cleaner...also some more stereo width. But the amazon reviews are a little more negative.

I was gonna preorder it cuz the 5 records at one point were like $103 on amazon....a good price for what ya get. Can't argue that. But I have 2 copies of 5150 and OU812 on vinyl, so all I really want is FUCK. I'm on the Fence with Balance. It's an okay album, but not great. Has some good songs though. I am hoping they release the albums individually in the future, but if not, maybe I'll ask the Mrs. for the Collection 2 for Xmas present.

There seems to be a bunch of new Van Halen releases lately. Who is behind these?

Oh yeah, it is like 2 totally separate bands. His playing changed quite a bit also.
