Van Halen mixing new album

I listened to it with the vocals defeated one time, and there was some cool stuff, but the mix is terrible and Cherone sounds pathetic. I don't think it was his fault though - I've read that they were trying to get him to sound like Hagar and it is not really his range. I love Cherone in Extreme, but he sucked in VH and I think it was because of how he was being told to sing the material...

I think you are right and there are a few spots were Cherone sounds a lot like Sammy. I'd think it greater odds they pressured him to do so than he feeling he needed to do so. IMO, they picked Cherone for his lyrical content. I think Eddie was wanting to move into something more serious and less party oriented. I'll admit it wasn't a match made in heaven, but I was not put off by the combination.

From my stand point, I'd be just as happy (maybe happier) if Eddie released an instrumental CD. He's perfectly capable. I'm not sure why he never did it. Maybe he felt above it or something. Or maybe it was because of contracts. Who knows?

Now doubt! "How Many Say I" is frickin' killer!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like it. It's got a peaceful flow to it, and some nice piano. Eddie does a oboe solo in it as well.

lynch = a nerdy poser

Add me to those who were huge Lynch fans back in the day who don't care for his current playing. That said, to call him a "nerdy poser" simply makes no sense to me whatsoever. The guy had a unique style and was hugely influential during his heyday...hardly a poser.

Don't worry Rupe. When Mixohoytian comes in to teach he and I will be having some words on his Lynch bashing. Unless he brings in another bag of avocados from the tree in his backyard. Then he's safe. Heck, I may even bash Lynch if he does that, but between you and me it will be insincere.

Sometimes these kids don't quite have the right perspective of certain players importance as they look back.

I'll bring some avocados on Thursday...
