Steve velcro flys recent post on the restoration of a Hamer Standard has me going absolutely crazy for a Hamer Standard. I grew up in Chicago where Hamer's were built and they were "our" guitar company if you know the Chicago mentality. As I remember the Hamer stuff was always just killer but I never owned one. I never even played a Standard. Any of you guys own Standards or have experiences with them? Heck any Hamer experience would be great to hear.

Thanks

lol...I don't think you're alone on that. That guitar looked badass!

Check yo PM's!!!

I hate to say this but all of the Hamers that I have played have just killed!!

The Hamer I was talking about in my PM was an archtop.

Here's my #1. For me, this guitar's about as perfect as you can get;

Awesome guitar Rufus. Korina huh? It looks like a brand new Standard is in the $2500-2800 range. I'll probably be looking on ebay for a nice used one.

This is one of a special run of 100 Korina Standards that Hamer did back in '95. Copies of the '58 Explorer. Jason (Argonaut4) has one of them too. Incredible guitars.

Randy, what kinda shape is the neck on your Hamer? Is it like a Gibson 50s type shape or a slimmer shape?

I loves my Hamers and I should have met Steve earlier in the week while he was out here so that we could have gone to the New Hartford Hamer shop, if he capped off about the headstocks there we would have thrown him in the river next to the factory

My experience is a custom order Monaco with a AAA quilt top done in tobacco burst that I have owned since 2003. Steve has played it with my strings slammed to the board setup so maybe he will comment. Rings like a bell and sounds huge.

It's actually closer to a 60's slim taper. D shaped and fairly flat in the back. I love it, it's thin enough to fly on (If I could, anyway   ), but with the meaty shoulders it still fills up your hand when digging in on bends, unlike most thin necks.

This guitar made me realize I can't stand a C shaped neck  Which unfortunately eliminates about 95% of the guitars in the world for me :(

Dude.. going by the tone you get in most of your clips, i wouldnt be worrying at all!! Your sound is always smokin, especially with that Hamer

So how is that Cameron treating you?

Its killer Randy!! The only thing really is i know it could do with a Bias as i put new tubes in.. and also im thinking of going with V30's for my Marshall cab. The greenbacks are cool, but theyre kinda compressed sounding when you run a lot of gain thru em.. I like more of an open sound!

You got killer tones with it through V30's, so im sure it'l sound great that way

I hear they all sound like crap and play like total shit...hope this helps!

Bwahaha....just doin' my part to incite the masses with GASses

If it's any consolation - I can't look at an Orange 4x12 anymore without wondering if it might sound as good as yours...man, that thing kicked / kicks all kinds of ass.

Dude, the Standard was THE most expensive electric guitar on the market in Germany when it came out. I was soooooooooooooooooooooo lusting over it. A few laters I actually ended up buying Adrian Smith's (the on that's on the back cover of Maiden's Killer album).
Was the coolest guitar I ever owned unfortunately it took a hug dive and the neck snapped and it was never the same. So it was sold. BTW, still have a Special with P90s that totally rules.
