Versatile Amp Suggestions

Thanks again for all the replies fellas! I've found a Invader for sale for a good price, and a couple 5150 III's. As much as I don't want to do all the legwork, I think I'm just going to have to hunt a lot of these down and play them in person. Learned that lesson the hard way with the Fuchs I picked up without playing it first.

Somebody needs to create a Netflix like system for amps... :D

Well if you havent made the Purchase, you might really like Orange Rockerverb 100, Best cleans on any metal amp imo...Very heavy, crunchy and very clear as well.

maybe not the saturation ud get from VHT but its an amazing amp.

How about a Hughes & Kettner Triamp mkII? It seemed very versatile when I played one.

For the $ you can't beat a Mesa Mark V in terms of versatility. Lot of options in that amp. If mesa is your tone then this is the amp.

I Would recommend a ENGL Powerball II if your looking to spend under 2K. They have a bigger output transformer than the powerball v1 , revoiced mids, and are totally brutal. You can find one for around $1600 used. Can't recomend it enough.

mesa roadking 2

it has switchable el 34s and 6l6, switchable tube recs or solid state rectification, 4 channels ( a beautiful clean channel, a clean/ low gain channel, and 2 mid or high gain channels), multiple loops, onboard reverb... etc etc etc. i owned one for many years and loved it. i wish i still had it... i sold it to buy a kick ass wedding ring though :)

I have my $8 ready for the first month .... :)

If you are thinking 5150 III, why dont you try that out first, you might find it handles all of your needs, played a couple and ALL 3 channels are VERY usable, great cleans, crunch and high gain all in one amp. FWIW I will also throw an Orange RV100 into the mix.

You and me both my man!

Thanks again guys for the suggestions. The Mesa's are out, like I said in my earlier post. Oddly enough, I've liked most of the Mesa clean channels but cant get along with the structure of the distortion channels, and Ive tried almost all of them.

Theres an Engl dealer here in town that has a FB100 and a PB II that I need to go try out. I wish someone close had the 5150 III in stock, or any of the Diezel gear. The store here used to carry Diezel but got caught up in the mess that happened a couple of years ago with the US distributor, so they dropped them. The search continues...

Oh BTW, does anybody know what happened with Josh Sage and Rebel Amps? I tried to check his site out today and it links to a cheap handbag site.

I second this. Triamp MkII. Extremely versatile. Excellent clean channel, mid gain tones, and gets heavy. The only wildcard will be whether the high gain channels are saturated enough for the brootz, if you are looking for that. Actually it gets very heavy, but if VHT/Engl/Bogner/Mesa and others aren't doing it then this amp may not either. Otherwise I can't think of a more versatile amp. And on the secondhand market you can get one within the budget you mentioned.

Diezel is excellent as well, but it's been mentioned. Hagen, VH4, Herbert. Any of those would do it. But they will be more expensive.
