Fuses.

More than likely a power tube gone awry.

Keep us posted.

Please replace main fuses and power tubes first.
Then check the tube fault fuses and rebias the
amp.

thanx everybody ...i replaced the fused at the mains slot and he is working just fine :)

Papa, I need help. My VH4 burns the main fuse instantly when switched on. I tried different power tubes that work and checked the power tube fuses too, it still burns the main fuse. What should I do next?

Where are you located?

How do you know the other power tubes you put in work? Did you use used power tubes to swap or new ones?

Are you sure your tube fuses are not blown?

My suggestion is to replace all power tubes with brand new ones, replace all tube fuses (best is ceramic) and then power your amp on again. Of course, replace your main fuse as well.

If you need further assistance please e-mail me (see signature).

I'm located in Finland. I had power tubes changed because they were a few years old and I thought they made some ground noise (turned out they didn't) and after a few weeks the amp stoped working in the middle of a gig when I turned it on from standby. I tried the amp yesterday with the old tubes and checked the tube fuses, which were all intact. It blew the main fuse immediately when I turned it on.

Pull out all power tubes and replace the main fuse.
Then switch on the amp without power tubes and
see if the fuse get´s blown or not.

There is no warranty that new tubes are not bad.
I heave a quote of 30% new and bad power tubes !

Thanks Papa! The amp burns the main fuse even when I took the power tubes off. Some short circuit somewhere in the amp or something?

Then it looks like a shortened bridge rectifier
MAYBE bad filter cap.

I would stay in contact with Jens

Could it be a filter cap? The amp used to make a bit of hum, even with a noise gate, but went completely silent when it was on standby. Thanks for your help, Peter! I'll contact the Finnish distributor and the best Finnish amp guy, to get it properly fixed. If this one takes long to fix, I'll order a Hagen to kill my time with. :D

Jesus. I didn´t recognice You are located in Finland.

So it´s a matter of shipment costs to send the amp
to me ?

I'll look into it, maybe I find some cheap way of shipping it. That would be the best option I guess. You'd be the best man to fix it, of course.

Edit: Finnish Post seems to be the cheapest way to get it to Germany, I'll call them, but it seems to be a very reasonable price for the shipping.

Hi Papa,

I just wanted to thank you for taking such a good care of my amp. I got it today and it sounds better than ever. It was such a bliss to get to play it after a long time. It just beats everything else...until I get me that Hagen, then it's bound to be a tie. :D
