Hi all,
A few weeks ago I pruchased a brand new VH4S. Everything seemed to be working perfectly until I noticed something bizarre:
When you turn both Master Volumes and both Presence Controls to 9 o'clock or below, some sort of whisteling noise appears - a bit like the sort of noise you get when you tune an old radio. The noise isn't very loud and when you play around (below the 9 o'clock position) with one of the controls mentioned above the noise oscillates/changes frequency. When you turn both Deep Controls to or below the 9 o'clock position the noise disappears. Same if you turn at least 1 or 2 of the Master Volume and Presence Controls above 9 o'clock. The noise is independent of the selected channel.
First I thought that some of the pre amp valves might be faulty and the technician of the music shop I usually use confirmed that. So, I bought new pre amp valves (JJ ECC83 S) from Watford Valves (one of the leading valve sellers), especially designed for Diezel amps, put them in and my VH4S didn't work anymore, not at all - no sound. I checked the JJ's in my other Diezel (Einstein) and they worked perfectly.
While trying out different pre amp valves in my VH4S, 2 of them died. One in the first pre amp valve position (closest to the guitar in), the position of the other one I don't really know as I only realised that it had died some time after I'd taken it out again. But then these 2 valves were older ones. It's therefore possible that they died of old age rather than anything else.
I haven't taken the VH4S back to where I bought it because that place is in Germany (Thomann). I live in Switzerland, not very often I go to Germany and I'm reluctant to send it back by post as it doesn't seem to be an enormous problem. So, I'm trying to sort it out at home first.
At the moment my amp's with the technician in my music shop. He's had a good look but he couldn't find anything (yet). But then he hasn't got the schematics of the VH4S. The only schematics I could find on the web are the ones of channels 3 and 4 which probably don't really help as the problem seems to be in the master section.

Any help, especially all schematics, would be much appreciated. Cheers in advance,
Jo
