hi guys... wonder if any VHT FB412 Guru out there for any advise...

i have a slanted VHT FB412 running all emimence P50Es... i am looking at to tweak abit by swapping out two of the P50Es... i have no idea which speakers will have a equal output but with all qualities of the P50Es yet without the darker tone with more edge on mids and treble yet sweet and not too harsh...

i know the P50Es is rated at 50watts 16 ohms at 12"... am looking at eminence CV7516 but its kinda rated at 75 watts i have no idea if it be balance if i were to cross it with the P50Es... ?

i have heard the celestion V30s vs P50Es... and really the V30s is more harsh... but the P50Es sounds kinda timid... and i have also heard the CV7516 against the V30 have found the same attitude on the eminence... i think its the way eminence voiced their speakers that way for smoother mids and less harsh compared to V30s ?

Hey Bro...

Question for you - how long have you been running the FB and at what volumes? I've got a couple Fryette 412s, but have stuck mostly with my Deliverance - same speakers inside, just a different character than the FB. ANYWAY - reason I ask is those speakers take some serious time and SPL to break-in. I was quick to wanna swap them out the moment I got a hold of my cab(s); but then broke them in and right now - wouldn't swap them out if ya paid me. They change immensely, and "timid" is far from a word I'd use to describe them once broken in.

Let me know - curious.
Peace,
V.

I have Celestion GK-85s x-patterned with the P50Es in my FB cab. Blend really nicely and add depth and bottom. But I agree with a previous poster that the P50Es take time and volume to break in.

A bit off topic but, have you looked inside the FB cab? I ask because I have Deliverance cab and wonder what the differences are. When I looked in the cab, I didn't see any bracing at all.

Sorry for the thread detour.

Hi Ventura thanks for chiming in... Well I got this cab for almost 4 years and been playing it in my room at bedroom volumes... I usually set my bulls at 1.30 on the master and channel at 830 and below....

I been wanna try swap different speakers but I hear a lot of advise to keep the P50Es as the FB cab is voiced to compliment the P50Es.... No idea about what speakers to go with have never attempted to change them before....

I heard the P50E has the most flattened out eq ? So it completely adds no extra treble, mids, bass ? But to just voice out the most natural tone off from your guitar and your amp? And ahhhh has anyone tried out their latest fane speakers yet ?

I put Eminence Wizards in my Fryette 2x12 after I toasted the P50s. They sounded better (to me) right out of the box than the P50s did after 5 years. The wattage difference means little. The sensitivity is what matters. If you put a louder speaker in there, it will overpower the stock speakers, and visa-versa.
The difference between a Deliverance cab and a Fatbottom (or Marshall) is the bracing. Most 4x12s have a brace in the center. The Deliverance has a patented, adjustable brace across the inside front of the cab. It allows you to adjust the resonance of the cab.

I will check for that brace. I guess I did not look in front as I was peeking in the speaker hole. I just noticed the D412 has no other bracing.

Playing at bedroom volume for 3 years - try this: hook your iPod (or whatever) to a power amp and crank it up loud. Let it play for 4 hours a day for two weeks. That'll break those P50E's in real good and you'll find them much nicer to listen to.

Hi Kelly kind to let known on how you feel about the VHT tone after you gotten the wizards in ? Some mentioned the P50Es has got some kinda "hollowness" but not sure how its been described.... But if not wrong a celestion and eminence speakers are voiced in a very different way.... I think I got what Mr Steven Fryette mentioned something which he likes about the speakers response the "U" or the "n" ..... I guess he must have refer the "n" to be of celestion qualities which is less "timid" but harsh on the highs.... And eminence being the "U" has "softer" character but a lot smoother and pleasing huh?

Yes, the Wizards made my amp a little more marshall like. The P50s are great speakers after break in, but I like the Wizards. My cab is rear loaded, though, unlike most other VHT/Fryette cabs.

Ok, I pulled a speaker and looked at the D412 front brace. It doesn't look adjustable. It is a stapled and glued in wooden brace, thicker in the middle than on the ends. I may add a center brace like a Marshall in the future.

Regarding P50e speakers, yes I find them to be pretty flat in the eq. That's why I am running some Hellatomes (V30's). They suit my amp better. Considered selling P50's but, selling is such a pain these days.

Think I will get the wizards from my local stores soon... I guess you guys opened up the sides handles to access the speakers wiring huh ? Just one more thing to ask if I were to changed the quatered 50watts to the wizards 75watts at 16ohms won't it be much louder making my amp driving at lower volumes?
