Hi guys, my power amp had the original tubes in it for years with no issues but after changing tubes it went downhill from there. Every two to three months like clockwork it blows a fuse and tubes or at least tubes. I've taken it to numerous repair shops, sent it to fryette and no solutions. Fryette says its fine and that it's my cables or cabinet. I tried four different cables and five cabs all with the same results. No problems with any of my other heads. Are sovtek tubes just crap now compared to the ones it came with? About to get rid if it. Thanks.

Get a good set of quality tubes from laura the valve queen before you off it.

My 2502 was blowing fuses back to back and I took it in to the tech and he ran it for 12 hours and never could reproduce it. Brought it home and sure enough, pop. Turns out it was a loose connection in my speaker cab. No idea why something in my cab would blow a fuse in my power amp but those little fuses blow really easy. I assume it is blowing the little 0.5 amp fast blow fuses in the front and not the big main fuse. I would....

1. put in a set of tubes you know is good

2. get a new speaker cable

3. check or just resolder your speaker wires

4. If non of this works put in a 0.5 amp slow blow fuse in those 2 slots

One of the techs at Fryette told me to use a slow blow fuse when I was working through my problem. However, If it turns out there really is something wrong with your power amp or something happens to it, I'd put a fast blow back in there and never ever tell them I used anything different. :D

I doubt anything in front of the power amp in the signal chain could cause it but what do I know. Also, I learned the hard way. Wait a few minutes before and after you do anything to switch stuff on, especially swapping out tubes. Something about start up transients....

Sorry didn't notice you had tried 5 different cabs. Dunno.

Most tubes are crap now, not just sovtek.

It's worth it IMO to pay for TADs or get them from Laura or someone who tests them on a load for a while. At least you know they won't blow right away, probably
