Someone near me is letting go of a VHT Pitbull 45 and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one.

From my research, I learnt it's more of a rock amp with beautiful cleans. Other people say just stick a tube screamer in front and it'll do metal.

Hardly any good videos, unfortunately.

Worth letting a PRS Archon 25 go for one? I like the Archon, but it's a small amp (and hence sounds smaller than the real deal 50 or 100... I think), but I am really intrigued by the Pitbull (probably because I really want an Ultralead and can't afford/find one for a good price).

Or maybe an Archon 50? Someone's selling one of those as well.

If you like the VHT/Fryette sound these are very good amps. It can get heavy sounding on its own, but not really a modern high gain type of tone. I play metal and my Pittbull 45 head works for me without a boost pedal.

I had one and I wish I never got rid of it. I traded it for a Macbook Pro back in 09. Mine was made in 94. If this one is a 94 and for some crazy reason is the one that I got rid of, I'd be interested in buying it back if you don't get it. I only sold it because my apartment was robbed and my laptop was stolen and I needed another one. I planned on buying it back one day but the guy that I traded it to sold it on ebay. The serial number ended in 71. It was more of a classic rock sounding amp with a boost feature that I left on all the time, but if I had it now I'd set it up a lot differently. It didn't have the eq on the front like most other Pitbulls have.

I have 2x10'' combo and even it definately can do metal, bit more compression due EL84 tubes than big Pitbulls. Tubescreamer is not a must but it's give You 'wetter' feeling. Cleans are great chimey Hiwatt/Vox type, crunch sound has 'butique' quality.

Don’t think It would be, this one is 240V. I think they go on sale on reverb and eBay from time to time, there’s one being sold now.

That’s helpful, though wondering now whether my Sig:X will cover the same territory.

Is there any difference between the 1x12 and two by ten? This one only has one speaker.

Great amps! I had one for a year or so, has that signature VHT/Fryette vibe. One of the best clean channels i've ever had the pleasure to play. The lead channel is a mid gain affair but with a boost you can do metal for sure. Me personally I prefer the slightly more old school/mid heavy vibe of the Deliverance and Sig X but if you dig the Pitbulls it's a stellar amp. Super touch sensitive and responsive to pick dynamics and guitar volume changes like all of Steve's designs.

Here's what mine sounds like without a boost pedal, cranked pretty loud on the drive channel:

Sweet! Thank you very much! That reminds me of bands like Down, I think it would sound downright demented with an eight stringer!
