VHT Ultralead .... \m/

Love my UL, it is a highly under rated amp that has sluffed off into the background. It's going used rate reflects that. The UL and the Framus Cobra have this insane punchy lowend. I prefer the UL with a clean boost actually. You probably already know this but one trick with the VHT stuff is to set the Master volume at 2-3oclock and adjust volume with the channel volumes.

-for those that know, I had a CL100-(like a lot of things in my life, I don't know why I sold it, I really loved it!)-what's the difference between the UL & CL?

I've had a 50CL, CLX, and my current UL.

First thing is obviously the UL gets a 3rd channel. There really isn't much difference between ch 2 and 3 other than a bit more compression on 3.

The 50/100CL and CLX are more in common with each other to my ears than the UL. The preamps all sound pretty similar especially if all are equipped with the 7 band EQ and I found the CLX to just be a much more "loaded" version of my 50CL, tonally they were really close. THe UL, with being the odd man out having the KT88's, and a slightly different preamp tube setup (depending on which UL version it actually is) gives it a very stiff and articulate feeling compared to the CL-X models. The UL is a great metal amp that is extremely aggressive, the CL amps have a lot of that character while being a bit more spongy and a tad less aggressive. They are still great for metal, but probably also better at softer genres than the UL.

UL: 3 channel, KT88s, 2 tubes for phase inverter
CLX: 3 channel, EL34s, 1 pi tube
CL: 2 channel, EL34s, 1 pi tube
D120: KT88s, 2 pi tubes
D60: KT88s, 1 pi tube

-thanx guys,.. Mine was a CL100 PITBULL W/EQ-
-there's one on reverb at a great price, I noticed that the UL's are always more $$$,

The UL and CLX are top dogs for the VHT/Fryette heads, as far as where they were priced and marketed. Sig X sat below that, then the Deliverance and Pittbull CL heads kind of followed.

All of them are great in their own ways. I've owned a Classic (which was rebranded as the CLX), D60, D120, UL, and Sig X. I still have the Sig X because, to me, it's the most versatile, and has the best clean/crunch styles while not lacking at all for super high gain. I love it. I maintain that it is what the Bogner Ecstasy should have been.

i always liked vht/fryette amps, i had a couple ultra leads and d60 and 120.
great amps, i always liked them best with my vht cab, not so much with other cabs though.

I have a roughly a 2006 or 2005 VHT UL and now i been wondering how much a difference between a 2006 to a present Fryette ultra lead...

I have heard there are difference in them and slightly but noticable? Anybody could enlighten me ?

I'm shooting off memory, but I believe there has been no changes in the last 10 years on the UL. It was more so the 90's and early 2000's that it saw different versions.

Great clip! Gotta love that UL tone.

I have run my ultralead and herbert together thru two warhead stacks(UL thru the 4x12s and the herbert thru the bottom 2x15 cabs). Brutal mix of tones with huge bottom end.

The UL is one of the best high gainers I have ever played. Was my no.1 amp for 3 years. Just so perfect for my playing, made me better. Made me pay attention more, then rewarded me with confidence which made me play more and harder. Kind of a circular cycle that always made me smile every time. I remember looking at all the other amps in the room and literally laughing out loud. Most of those other amps are gone now.

The UL and herbert were the impetus for me to jump into the more expensive amp lines, and both are in the top 5 of my collection.

i can only imagine what that sounds like.
