Hey guys, here are clips from today's amp day. Basically I'm getting ready to write some new tunes and start recording an EP of my own and just wanted to mess with some sounds. There are 5 different amp combos, there were many more options but some just didn't really work for me and what I'm doing so I just stayed focused on the better sounding amp blends. Each track is 2 performances hard panned, each performance is 2 amps, same 2 amp on each side. Guitar was a LP, cabs were Bogner and Recto, mics were 421/57, pres were Neves multed through the SSL.

The song I used was an old tune, some of you will remember it from other videos. I play about a minute of each amp combo and then I play 2 bars of each combo looped for a minute or so so you can hear them one right after another. I'd love to hear what combos you like. Enjoy!

Woow. What a video. Thanks for the test. I still love this song.
My favorite is the Marshall+Triple recto for a more open, kinda classic vibe and the VH4+Triple recto for a modern take on the same tune.
I would even try to use the 2 different combinations in different parts. Definitely the VH4+Triple for the chorus for that extra punch and the Marshall+Triple for the rest. To my surprise the Orange brought in a mushy feel, the Uber with the Rectos were a strange sound, almost phasey. Like the amps were fighting for the same freq..

thats is a wicked tune james by the way is it available on i tunes or anywhere along with other stuff?

On to the amps I liked the Marshall -triple I think their freq's are farthest apart and create the most contrast, but the VH4 certainly does make it more modern

My favorite was the Triple Rec and HBE combo. All those combos sounded great, but the Marshall/Mesa combination sounds huge and clear. Their frequencies seem to compliment each other the most.

For consistency I kept all the amps at the same level but when I blend the Uber I always tuck it in some.

Yeah I just listened, the Triple and Marshall are the kill. Best for pick attack too. I really love the triple, it has taken me a lifetime to get the hang of recording them. The Dual is sweeter but the triple has the goods, pure evil.

My vote is the Marshall with either Rec. I could very easily live with any of them though.

I'd have to agree with most everyone...the Mesas and Marshalls....the Uber, Orange and VH4 seem to get lost in the Mesas. Although I'd love to hear other combos that don't have the Mesas involved.

Do you still have the Reeves, James? I would love to hear that with the Rectos.

The Mesa Triple/HBE Marshall was my favorite of the gathering as it tended to have more bite, more natural overtones and an organic overall feel. The VH4/Triple was my next favorite with it's primary difference from the Marshall/Triple combo being that it was a bit tighter/more modern sounding. It just didn't lend itself to that particular song as well. I was HIGHLY disappointed in the Bogner/Mesa mix as it sounded like a frequency battle royal and actually felt like I was struggling to hear either amp distinctly. Those two amps must be voiced too closely to one another to get a blend without eqing them wildly different. I'm not a fan of Orange, as they sound mushy to me.

Great vid and good luck with the choices. If it were me, Marshall/Triple for older sounding rock (hair metal, 90s alt, standard tuned groove stuff) and the VH4/Triple for modern/downtuned harder rock.

Spot on. Thanks for taking the time.

Sweet video man, I like the Triple Recto and HBE Marshall the best!

the triple rec/uber combo had some weird, slightly out-of-phase tone to it that almost made it sound like a subtle chorus effect. sounded AWESOME to me lol

To tell the truth ALL of those combinations kicked my head in!!! I loved em all.

Do you want the super hot chick on the left or the über hot chick on the right? :D

And yeah, that's still a RAWKing tune.

No problem bud! You know, you're relatively close to me... I need to take a ride out to you sometime to come check out your hide out and may possibly (if I can cough up the coin, seeing as I am a habitual broke ass ) partake in your services once I get a band up and going. Hell I don't even have a clue what you charge for an album/EP or any of your services but I guess I just assume they're out of my league with the quality of clips and videos you put up.
