Figured some of you may dig this video of my band. My guitar player is using the same rig I use. Digitech 1101 into a Mesa 50/50. Let me know what you think of his tone

No tone comments? I think it sounds pretty damn good for a digitech

Its not the clearest example but It sounds great to me, especially for the tune. The GSP110 is an amazing piece that can do so much and you can find them all day long for 250-300. Im using one into 2 tech 21 Power Engines and it sounds AMAZING. Same thing when I run through a Rocktron Velocity 300 and a cab. I love my Marshall and boogie but in all honesty, The GSP rig sounds fantastic and is so much more convenient to drag out and so satisfying tonally, I cant see myself ever going back to anything else for playing out. The tones and quality effects are there in spades but itll get dismissed by the corksniffer and brand name brainwashed in typical fashion. Anyone who is willing to give it a chance will be more than pleasantly surprised...

Thanks Kage. Was thinking of trying a Mesa 20/20 instead of the 50/50 to lighten up my rack but may have to check out those power engines

The Rocktron Velocity 300 is one rack space and can drive 2 4x12's LOUD!!! its not very light but its no so heavy that it bugs me. after lugging around a rack with a VHT 2150, everything is light in comparison.

The tech 21's are light as hell, sound great and get pretty friggin loud. Theyre definitely worth trying..

I've been using this exact rig for the last year and a half (GSP1101 into a Boogie 50/50... I use a Marshall 1936 2x12). I use it for more of pop/rock band and I think it sounds really good. However, I would also like a lighter alternative to the Boogie 50/50 and I'm thinking about the Matrix 800. My experience with the Tech 21 Power Engines was never that great.

What I like about the boogie is I think the tubes warm it up a bit. I like the simplicity of 1 cable to the mic stand, and killer tones at my feet

I was also thinking about the Boogie 20/20 but they are hard to find and are more expensive than the 50/50. The 50/50 has been very reliable and has served me well and I wonder about the sense of replacing it to save 1 rack space and about 12-15lbs off the rack.

Kage and bikerdude2:

Could you post your settings for a couple base tones that you use? I would really appreciate it.

I have the RP1000 and use it mainly for a few effects in the 4CM with a 100 watt head. I am not much of a tweaker but haven't really been able to dial in a decent mid and higher gain tone using the sims. Since the RP1000 and the 1101 are pretty much the same brain, your settings should get me in the ballpark.

I have to tell ya Drew, I cant say enough good about the power engines. Ralphie turned me on to them and they are incredible with both the GSP and his Kemper. He even plugged a distortion pedal into the thing and it wailed LOL!!!

Fek, What revision are you using (http://mustbebeta.com/)? I'll copy some of my settings too but I believe I use the Matchless amp model for my mid gain sounds.

Uh, good question! I don't know which version I am using. I have had the RP for a few years now and don't believe that I have ever updated it. It has been hooked up to my laptop a few times but not in the last 6 months or so.

I look forward to trying out your settings. Thanks again!

Hmmm. I may need to give them another chance.

A lot of people Don't like the stock speakers that are loaded in the Tech 21's. I find that it's a love hate thing with those.

id say that since you already have a 2x12 that you should go with a decent light weight power amp and call it a day.

With that said, Id never pay the Price they are asking for the matrix power amps. Id be more then happy with a Carvin Light weight power amp but that's just me!!

Hope all is well!!

If you do need to upgrade, the new firmware adds several amp models as well as other nice features. I think C63 is the number.

Thanks to Kage and Ralph for pointing me to the gsp1101. I recently put together my new, VERY portable rig with it (gsp1101), velocity 150 and a 1x12 (EVM from my boogie cab). A 3 space rack and a 1x12... how much easier can it get? And it's plenty loud, especially since I have the 1x12 on an angled stand aimed right at me.

I did 2 gigs this past Friday w/ it and it kicked ass. So easy to setup: XLR out uses cab sims to the FOH and 1/4" is just preamp to the power amp for a "monitor". Got lots of compliments on my sound by other guitar players. At the 2nd show the other rig was marshall dsl 1/2 stack that sounded killer. There were 3 of us filling in for their guitarists (both out of town) and we took turns playing what we could pull out of our asses. The other two guys didn't play any songs together, so I didn't get to hear the rigs together, but the guy that owned the marshall said the combination of our rigs was an amazing wall of tone. I pretty much stick with the MarkIV sim. Gets pretty close with some tweaking.
