Fun night, a bunch of rig-talkers sent pedals, a buddy of mine brought over some ribbon mics and dstruod graced us with his presence and brought some toys. For my style of playing I really liked the OCD best followed by the Boss Super Overdrive and the Marshall Gov'ner. The Tube Screamer thing is cool but a little to midrangey for me. The OCD was huge, the video is cool but standing in front of the amp is a whole other trip. The variac did some cool things to the amp, kind of smoothed it and made the notes chewier when dropped to 90 but it also kind to some or of the spank away. It darkened the amp which enabled me to dime it without hating the top end of a dimed amp. The Hotplate isn't something I really need, owning a studio I can play as loud as I want 24/7. It seemed like the pickup booster worked better with the Tele then the Paul, I like the pickup booster on the tele better then the Boss Overdrive. If you guys ever get a chance to check out a Beyerdynamic M500 ribbon mic, do it. So great on Marshalls. Wow!

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the video. Thanks everyone who was involved.

Very cool James, thanks for demoing all that stuff and sharing.
I set it to HD mode and listened through a very nice audio system ...(from what I can tell through you tube) I liked the OCD and the DOD best, but they are all very usable for different styles of music.

Once again, thanks so much for these insightful videos. This and the pickup shootout are awesome!!!

No speakers here at work, will have to check when I get home. I really liked the Guvnor I used to have....nice mid gain distortion, very amp like.

Great stuff James!! Keep em coming! Not a bad note coming out of that baby! And great playing too

That sounds great without pedals. It takes them like a champ though. Awesome tones coming from that box.

Great tones!! I think you can get a great sound out of pretty much any pedal into a plexi.
What's that Magicbox?

Yeah it was a lot of fun, all the pedals really sounded great.

sounds great!! i just found my gov'ner pedal in the pedal pile, great pedal. The variac seems like it adds more "sponge" to the tone...at least that what ive discovered.

I think it was called the Body Blow or something like that - pretty cool pedal. But you're right - taking into consideration every one of those pedals had gain, level and tone at noon - you could probably do some adjusting of the controls and get great tones out of any of those pedals with the Ceriatone.

Is the Boss an SD-1 or Turbo Overdrive ? Kind of confused. If not an SD-1, did you try one out ?

Turbo Overdrive on I believe the lower gain setting. No SD-1's made it to the party.

Yup Turbo with the turbo off. Basically I think just a Super Overdrive.

I fired up some pedals today and worked on getting them a little more user friendly for the studio ie found powersuplies and cabling. I'll tell you I really like the Turbo overdrive with my Paul and Plexi, very tight and focused.

Always enjoy your shootouts......Hey Lugo, how long have you used Dunlop straplocks with your Les Pauls? And do you trust them?
