GB/V30 comparison...i have them as a mismatch in my2x12, as framus loads their ruby riot combos with this mismatch. my amp is the head version of the ruby riot so figured why not (have been using this mismatch for over a year now) im aware that some other amps like the matchless DC30 also do this use this mismatch.

FWIW...yes there are variables, the V30 came stock in the cab and i replaced it with a second hand GB which possibly has had more hours on it.
also my micing technique could sway one or the other, but i tried my best to make sure it was the same.

also my amp isnt a brootz amp, and i never ever run the lead channel gain that high (esp with the bridge humbucker at full) but i thought it would be funny to hear.
and contrary to popuar belief, one doesnt noticably overpower the other when you are standing a few steps back.

can you guess which one is which?

Cool comparison. I would guess which is which, but I don't have to since you showed a pic of the inside of the cab at the beginning.  ;)

ahh dont be fooled by the in-cab shot at the beginning, as the picture is rotated upside down...BUT i also flipped the speakers left/right recently,
BUT... also took it to a speaker tech friend to try out (he said both speakers are still in mint condition) who may have also possibly flipped the speakers...so i actually myself cant 100% say which one is which until i open up the back

interesting. I always thought the V30 had much higher efficiency and would drown out the GB. I may try this combo out out home, though I will say, I didn't care much for the high gain timmy boosted tone.

i never run the gain that high, on this amps lead channel...7oclock is nothing, 8oclock is beyond verge of breakup and 9 -10 is high gain (which is where i usually set it). anything after that just adds fuzz, but it does sound good if you roll the volume on the guitar knob back.

and uh yeah...i meant to stuff up the panning...just to try foolyas.
(not really...godammit now im going to have to fix it)

so...ive fixed the panning and RE-uploaded the clip...and yes i did the in-shot pic is now the correct way!

so if you guessed (from an audience perspective Vintage 30 = Left and Greenback = Right
you were correct!

Sorry, your avatar is too distracting for me to pay any attention to speakers

That was cool! I would like to see more speaker comparisons done this way.

I have the Matchless 2x12 with the 'treated' speakers. It is pretty good. Does great with single coils and a class A amp cranked a bit.

It sounds good. I don't think this would work at really loud volumes, but for less volume, both would be heard.

the volume i had it for the second part (clean channel/crunch tone) is pretty much the loudest this amp gets...(with the volume knob any higher, just makes it compress more), it was so freaking loud in the room. you can even hear it clipping hte mic input a tad.
and both speakers still sounded great.

i could understand if you were using a 100W amp pushing this cab, but for my 30W head, it just works great.

ill be doing another clip with my 20W jet city soon.

Hey John! Nice clip there. :)

The Greenback sounded like a bell ringing when you played with a clean tone. With the dirty tone, it sounded a little distant and dark- in a good way. The V30 sounded a little harsher and brighter in comparison.

If you want an extra V30, I have one handy...................

heres another comparison i made with the same cab, different amp & guitar (both brighter/less warm sounding) and a different mic position

Thanks for doing the comparison. At least I'm consistent. I like the obnoxious V30 tone. GB sounds like it has a blanket over it.

They sound great when the microphone is in the middle- good mix of both flavours, especially with the gainier tones.

Great Demo Thanks!
It exactly shows my prior experience, the V30 is brighter and more focused, sounding good in a dense mix especially with a second guitarist. The greenback is a more laid back tone and works great in a single guitar setup and in a style of less dense music. Even cleans can get lost with GBs in a band situation unless the song is arranged accordingly.

About the GBs, would they be overshadowed if used with speakers such as Electro Voice, or the C90 Black Shadow?

Great clip. I'm going to be using this combo in my 4-12 and I'm hoping for great results
