Anyone have advice on good volume pedals that are available?
I keep hearing crap about the Ernie Ball pedals being iffy.
Any recommendations?

I don't know...I've just heard they "suck tone" from a bunch of people. Although in most cases nowadays I don't know if people even know what "tone" is, so what I've heard may be irrelevant.

I use 2 Ernie Ball 6166's with my G-System. One as a volume and one as an expression pedal. My guitar signal never actually goes into them so I can't comment about the tone sucking issues but they work great in my setup. Never had any issues with them.

Rocktron Expression. Built like a brick shit house and tolerates substantial abuse.

They're pricey, but the George Dennis volume pedals are great. They don't suck tone at all, and being optical, can go in front of the amp or in the loop with great results in both places. I've had Ernie Balls, Vox, and Boss volume pedals, and much prefer the George Dennis. I've got the GD-10 right now and love it. Very smooth too.

I use EB's for both my rigs and I use them a lot.

Here are the issues:
On one the main pin keeps sliding out.
I use them a lot so I break the strings occassionally, once you break a string at a show and have to replace you will realize that you never want to do this again.

Non issue, I find no tone suck. Small convenient size.

I much prefer the feel and reliability of the Boss FV500 series. If I didn't have 4 EBs to replace I would make the switch...NOW.

I had a cheaper EB volume pedal and yeah, it was sucking tone. At least on my rig.
I changed it for a Boss FV-500H and I'm very happy.

I use a Boss FV50H with my Splawn rig and it works great. I like it the most out of the other ones I have tried and it doesn't run on a battery or adaptor which is nice..
