what causes this to happen?
The volume knob will no longer turn due to the shaft apparently being seized up completely.

Most stock pup are junk, and they freeze up. Just replace it with a nicer one.
I like Bourns low friction pots myself.

ohyeah, it's already replaced. I was just curious what causes it? It's a stock Ibanez pot from an RGA121...i figured they would be atleast decent.
I've been playing guitar for 15 years and never not once has this happened to me before.

Import guitar pots do that a lot.

I have had a few Ibanez stock pots take a crap on me. I think there was a run of bad pots with Ibanez a couple years back, and it may have been Rich Harris telling me he had to replace several.
If I change pups in a guitar, I usually swap out the pots/switch as well. When I go to sell it, I drop the stockers back in.
