I have a 1101, but been checking out a few clips of the Voodu and it sounds awesome. Has anyone ever had both or just any general opinions?

Thanks,

Mike

They are really close. I mulled over both before buying and went with the 1101 based mostly on price.

Yeah, I really like my GSP, but I was wondering if the VV has a global EQ? That's one of the handiest features of the GSP for me with playing in different rooms every weekend.

FWIW, If I had to pick between a VV and 1101, I'd pick the 1101. I guess if you're just looking to try something new it'd be cool but I guess, I'd be careful messing with a rig you already "really like" unless there is something specific missing.

Do you really have to have a Winows XP machine to use XEdit? Can you load IR's on a windows 7 machine?

I have a Voodu Valve, which I bought when they were first out, which was in 1995. The things has worked flawlessly since then and I love the tone. Every now and then I get GAS for a high-gain tube amp, that is until I turn on my little midi rig with the Voodu Valve and am again blown away by the tone and flexibility of the thing.

The VV doesn't have a global EQ, but it's EQ is one of it's strongest features, for each patch the EQ is a 3 band that is fully parametric with an EQ pre-distortion (ala Fender) and post-distortion (ala Marshall).

I haven't tried the GSP 1101, so I can't comment, but I can say that there isn't another midi unit I'd replace the Voodu Valve with, I'm very happy with mine.

I don't use X-Edit myself, would rather just do it all on the unit, but you can download a compatible version for whatever version of Windows and mustbeta update you have I believe.

Seriously. . Get the latest beta software for the 1101 and download the cab updater.
Then get the free IR from Redwirez.
Totally transforms the 1101.

I don't have the redwirez IR but I do have C.63 firmware, which added some great amps.

I've read varying reports as to whether the X-Edit beta will work with Windows 7 and above.

I run an XP virtual machine on my Mac to use X-Edit. This only works using parallels, not VM Ware Fusion. Something about the way the USB protocol gets recognized.

Once updated to beta C63 I have been able to use the G.I.R.L. cab uploader in Mac OS native without issue.

I've only had the GSP1101 a little while but I'm pretty impressed so far with what it can do. I really want to get it racked up with my GSP2101 and a power amp and get some crazy stuff going on.

Honestly not so happy about the GSP1101. Tone loss and signal degradation. Almost feels like there's some filtering going on that I have tried and just haven't been able to dial out. This is in use with my Sig:X, old Deliverance, and my Pittbull.

It's making me want to go back to pedals.

X-Edit works great with Windows 7! I've been using it for all most a year with my 1101 and my GNX-4, no issue! And I really like the 1101, great unit.

That's good to hear. How are you updating cabs with new IR's?

Are you using the Digitech delivered version or the mustbebeta c63 version? If you load the mustbebeta software onto the GSP1101 you have to use the accompanying version or it will crash.

Mustbebeta C63 and I use Redwirze for IR's, the beta version let's you load the IR's.

I'll +1 on the c63/x-edit works on win7.

So, are the Redwirze IR's a lot better than the stock ones? I've found a stock (c63 anyways) one I really like: very close match to what I hear from my power amp/cab. IIRC the 1101 only supports 128bit IR's. Is this generally an issue? I'm guessing Redwirze must be 128 (or have that option)

This was my experience as well, I recently sold my GSP. It's probably okay as a stand alone unit, incorporating it with an amp didn't do it for me. Too bad, as it seems like it was intended to work in a 4CM arrangement.

Both are really cool. I have both. I prefer the effects and overall sound of the VV when using a guitar cab and power amp. GSP like most modelers are too colored for guitar cabs.
