Hey guys, just looking to up a small practice amp for cheap. How well does the Vox VT20 or VT40 do stuff like Iron Maiden, Opeth, Megadeth, etc? I'm sure it can do those tones, but how good does it sound for that? I always thought of Vox stuff as more geared towards rock and not metal. I'm looking at something like the Vox, a Marshall MG15FX/30FX or a Peavey Vyper maybe? And then probably a cheap boost pedal like an SD1 or something to throw in front. Any suggestions?

I had a VT 50. It was cool for classic rock or blues tones but sucked at high gain. The louder you turn it up the worse it got.

Get a Vypyr, provided you don't need a foot switch. I have a Vypyr 15 and dig the heck out of it. One of the best practice amps I've ever had. Fender Get-DEC is a great option too but more money. Fender is a great idea if you want to practice with jam tracks or a metronome (which you should!) and don't have one.
