Ok...

Three months ago I had an ear ache so I go and get drops from Doctor.
Ear ache still there after a week of drops. Ear still shows red inside.
So, Doctor gives me Zythromax antibiotic and I wait ten days... no change at all.
Doctor then puts me on Amoxicillan... no change.
Then Doctor puts me on Sulfate... no change.
I've had a catscan but it only shows bone and stuff - no soft tissue. I have an MRI booked for Feb 12th.
Has anyone ever had ear candling done? Improvement?
I'm 13 weeks into this dizzy crappy feeling with a slight hearing loss in my right ear and a "hollow" weird sound every time I hear my own voice...
Any advice or experience would be much appreciated guys!
I'm so frustrated at this point!

:aww:

A lot of home remedie people swear by Lavendar for ear problems. Maybe get some L drops and try them.

Are you seeing a Specialist or just your regular MD? If you are just seeing your main Doctor, Its time to see a specialist. Sorry I don't have a better answer for ya bro! Best of luck.

lol...

Ya. We have great health care up here, but I have to wait for an ENT specialist appointment which is Feb 27th.

But it's all free...

I get bad ears from surfing and I put isopropol alcohol in there and it clears it right up. Make sure your ear drum doesn't have a hole however.

I would put in an emergency call to have the appointment bumped up quicker. Waiting until the 27th is nuts and you might be doing more harm by waiting. I've done that in the past and I personally think that you should not wait any longer.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. You don't want the infection spreading or your eardrum to rupture and not heal right.

I don't know if they do it for adults, but for kids it's common for them to put ventilation tubes in the eardrums to release the pressure and keep it equalized. They can drain the fluid from the middle ear when they do that. My daughter had it done over the summer.

I had an ear infection not too long ago - they suck! 13 weeks in would REALLY suck.

I'm pretty sure 'ear candling' is not a good idea.
+1 Ear candles are actually now illegal in some states.

Wow...

I thought it just removed some ear wax...
My aunt swears by it.
She has it done once a year and it makes her whole head feel better.

i had an earache that wouldn't go away for weeks. i couldn't sleep, and my jaw hurt like hell. i went to a dr in a box and he said it's excessive fluid in the ear. he said to buy Drixoral at the local drug store and i'd be fine. It's a nighttime thing and will knock you out, so don't take it during the day. After about 3 nights, the earache was gone.

try it

Forget your regular doctor. Get some pain meds or whatever you need to leave it alone. Wait for the ENT. DO NOT bother with an ear candle - I can't believe people believe in that kind of junk! (no offense)

Seriously - I made the mistake of letting my regular doctor handle it 25 years ago, and I've had some pretty significant issues with my left ear because of it.

I now have artificial bones in my left ear, to give an example, and have around 50% loss, and a constant pain and ringing...and it plugs up every time I get a cold a few days before, and it's a month afterwards before it finally clears up...

Make sure the doctor either removes it or confirm that it's not there (fell out) - that was what caused all my problems. I had a tube in my ear for 13 years, it got infected, festered, I'd take anti-biotics, it'd calm down, infection would resume, etc. After a few years, I ended up with a Cholesteatoma ("skin ball" tumor) that as it grew it would eat up bone.

My mom trivialized the amount of pain I was going through - by the time I saw a real ENT, he said I had so much scaring on my eardrum that it must have ruptured at least 5 times, and, the tube was still in there. He bitched her out, since he was the one that put it in all those years ago, and there must have been a miscommunication on if/when there was a follow-up visit to remove it...

Anyhow, he did surgery to remove it, after doing an exploratory a week prior. 12 years later, I'm in the OR again for the same proceedure, minus the mastoidectomy that I needed the first time

Both times, they nearly cut my ear off completely on the outside - starting at the top, and going right around to the bottom along the backside.

The second time, is when I got the artificial bones put in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_candling theres some more info about it. Doesnt look like a good idea to me at all..

I hope you get this all sorted soon Keith, i agree with those who said to try get an emergency appointment. Better to get this all better than wait and possibly cause more damage!

My sister and brother in law are both audiologists. If she did'nt live in England I could get some answers for you asap. She's rarely on the computer but I'll try emailing her and see what she says
