Hey guys, I wanted to explore wah again and was wondering which ones you guys like best. The only wah pedal I ever owned (and still have) is the Slash signature one by Dunlop, but haven’t used any wah for years. It was fine, but I’d like something with a much wider sweep. I like the wah sounds of Vai and Wylde. Let me know what you guys think. I’m admittedly a newb with wah

Then buy Wylde ,if You like Dunlop Wah sweep or Bad Horsie 2 if You want more features (switching, contour) . 535Q are great wahs with adjustable sweep range. CAE 404 is one of the best I ever tried in therms of feel and sound. New Petrucci wah look interesting, but the price is quite high.

Tried abunch of these little guys.. Xotic Wah, Dunlop 535Q, Wilson Effects 12q position booster wah, Dunlop, CAE, and quite a few others..

Best one out of the bunch by far is my 80's crybaby with the "Dean Deleo" mod. Got that special something in it, slaps the other wahs around like they're droopy eyed armless children. Sorry to plagiarize Charlie Sheen but it's the truth.

The Xotic wah is pretty killer if it's one desert island wah that's the one ..I also dig Area51 and the new Friedman wah

I have one of these... its nice/good/tweakable, but it isn't GREAT for me. Honestly, bang for buck and nice sweep, I like the simple cry baby mini. 3 voicings inside, nice sweep, sounds fantastic. The only wah I like better is my solidGoldFX modded Cry Baby. Wah's are hard because some people want more cut, others more sweep, others more warmth. Unfortunately you have to try them.

Whatever you're looking for, you simply dial it in on the Xotic.
I'd love to have the limited edition red version for my small board but I can't afford one at the moment.

The last Machinehead show, Demmel had a Rhoads polka dot one that sounded killer.

That's not my experience at all.. I was not able to get the same voicing at all. If you can get it to sound as good as the mini, shoot me your settings because I love the foot print of the xotic wah.

I've been very happy with the Dunlop Cantrell wah

For saturated tones I've never found a better than a Dunlop Zakk. Most the others sounded like a volume pedal or a very narrow filter with 2 fixed points at toe and heel.
For clean stuff..... Whatever :)

Yeah based on the YouTube vids I’ve seen, I’m liking best the Zakk Wylde and Friedman No More Tears best and it sounds like the latter may also be going for a Zakk Wylde vibe based on its name

The Zakk one is a safe bet. It's got a dirty sweep. Although I put 1 or 2 felt pads to the heel side, due it goes deeper than I need. Probably just fine if you are tuned to C or below.

The ZW has a sweep that consists of a lower register than the other Dunlop's right?

It also has an allen wrench bolt under the heel that allows you to adjust and set your preferred rocker tension.

Is this the only model that has that feature?

I've been very happy with the BBE Ben Wah for many years....sounds great (based on a vintage '67 circuit), true bypass, sweepable mids, durable, etc.

the sweep on most will be a problem. Friedman demo is great.
