MXR/Custom Audio Electronics CAE Wah... I'm deadly serious.

+1 Excellent wah pedal.
I also like the Morley Bad Horsie 2. Nice voicing and switchless on/off is big plus.

+1 for the Bad Horsie, I have used one for a long time. The switchless on/off is great at gigs!

All this talk about wah's makes me want to try out some others. A few years back my wife bought me a Zakk Wylde wah for a birthday present. I never did bond with it and later got a Morley. I really like the feel of the Morleys. I even had Jerry of FJA Amps mod a Bad Horsie to be similar to a Maestro Bommerang. Right now that's on my pedalboard but at the house I have been using a regular Bad Horsie for practice and some recordings.

I'll throw one in here that hasn't been mentioned. The Ibanez WD7 (weeping demon wah). After my old crybaby from 92 got stolen, I bought a new crybaby classic, as well as another old 93 crybaby, didn't care for either, they just didn't sound like my old 92 crybaby. Well neither does the Ibanez, it sound better. You can tweak the hell out of it, it has a touch mode like the morelys which is what I use and has a normal mode as well as a bass mode, sweep adjustment etc. All the guys in my band immediate noticed a difference when I used this wah. Phrases like that thing is SICK, Brutal, Cuts through etc.
I love mine and can't really say enough good things about it.

Whatever wah you get be sure to have someome mod it t ohave the Whipple inductor. IMO the best sounding wahs I have ever heard had the whipple.

If youre so inclined you can build the BYOC wah and have one that can be tweaked to your exact tone via the trimpots.

The IC based output buffer (which can easily be
omitted from the build for the purists)is noise-free, absolutely transparent, and superior to the transistor
based buffers. The "gain", "bass", "mids", and "Q" resistors have been replaced with internal trimpots so
you can dial in the tone that you've always wanted from your wah. The kit also comes with an extra
"sweep range" capacitor

It also has the best buffer I've heard in a "big name" effect and is the only non true-bypass effect I have that doesn't add noise when bypassed. Another great choice.

Figured I should follow up. The Silver Machine Wah I got recently is amazing. I don't recommend anything else. I have only tried and owned a few. Fulltone, Buddha are some nice Wahs I have tried, and I've owned both Bad Horsie versions, a Digitech Whammy/Wah as well as a Dunlop Crybaby and a Vox Mcoy wah. I never really cared much for Wah before I got this pedal. I like it more than my family.

I have or I had a 535Q, there is a possibility that I've sold it, because after I saw your topic I looked around & couldn't find it. I think my story speaks for itself.

I've been using the Dunlop Crybaby From Hell for years now, and it's a fantastic sounding wah! Versatile too, since you can adjust the Sweep/Q/Fine-Tune and also you can assign a gain boost to it too.

I don't hear any tone suckage when it's bypassed so it works well for me!

This is just a starting point.
From here you can go to various comparisons of wah pedals of all varieties and makes to listen to how they all sound and compare to other various wahs.

From the ones I heard, I like the Clyde II for the vocal characteristics it has, compared to some of the others.

I sent my standard Dunlop wah back to the company and had them mod it to sound as vocal and organic as they possibly could. It sounds very good for commercial playing in clean and distorted modes through my Diezel amps.
I also use a Vox Clyde McCoy wah and while a bit different from the Dunlop wah, it still has a very organic sound and feel to my ears.

I use a few different wahs.
Depending on the situation.
Teese WOF-(I modded to be switchless) Excellent for high gain, not for a vintage vibe.
Teese RMC3- (I modded to be switchless) Excellent all around for high gain and vintage sounds.
Automagic SMW- Great wah, but very modern sounding. But it does have a lot of voices.
Bad Horsey-Good wah, but limited. Very modern sweep
Bad Horsey 2-Much better voice than the 1, but still modern.
535Q-(I modded to be switchless) Best bang for the buck. All around great wah.
95Q- Great wah, but also modern voiced. Great for high gain.

I want to try the CAE/MXR

I like the Dunlop 95Q wah. It has Q control and a 15db boost but my favorite feature is that it's switchless. Put your foot on it and it turns on. Take your foot off it turns off. No button to click on and off.

Hello Folks!!

Alright - so after some solid gabbin', researchin', figurin', and ponderin' I came up with a purchase, and it should be here today :2thumbsup:

I bought the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. Now, before you think this was an uneducated purchase, lemme say that the runner-up was the Dunlop CAE wah, and the reasons for this were broken down into the following.

My decision to get into a proper wah led me to the whole UNIVERSE of buffered loops, relay bypass, quality, true tone, my style of playing, sweep, pedal action, etc. ANYWAY, I grew a tremendous respect for Bob Bradshaw over the course of the last couple weeks, and his design of the CAE wah was the cats ass due to its chip based buffered output, dual fasal inductors and so forth. I thought this was truly da bomb. And I am still very very tempted to buy it as a secondary wah, but never the less, here's where it came down to the crunch...

The Fulltone Clyde Deluxe has got a big man's ROM, and I've got the feet, and I like big motion with my wahs (one of the things I despised about the V-Wah). Secondly, it's true bypass and there were reasons for this OVER the CAE. I wanted the wah to be completely transparent and only do what it was meant to do, and not screw with the tone. Because I am yet uncertain as to whether it will be after the distortion/compressor/fuzz or before it, I wanted complete neutrality in its output. So, getting the best of BOTH worlds, I bought the Clyde Deluxe AND also ordered the MXR/CAE MC401 Boost/LineDriver - so in essence, I'm getting the sound of the Clyde which I found superior in all the research I'd done, along with the ability to clean up the signal with the CAE boost just like the one installed in the CAE wah.

Done. I'll let you know how I like it once it arrives - should be here today

Quick Update on the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe:

NO HONEYMOON PERIOD HERE GENTS!!! This wah f*ckin' ROCKS!!!!!! Best sound I've had in a wah quite possibly ever  At least, best wah I can remember ever hearing and using... Thing is pristine in its sweep, has knuckles of pop, squack and soul - simply perfect and wicked.

I'm really glad I chose this wah. Looks and feels like 100% quality, sounds amazing, feels perfect, and has awesome action... Thanks for the recommendations, I'm very stoked. Search over - it's getting perma mounted on my pedalboard, no going back. If you haven't tried one of these, do yourselves a favor - just at least try it. I'd be surprised if you're not blown away :D

Peace,
V.

Great choice, V. I have the same wah and really dig it. Also, btw perhaps there was a degree of implicit egotism in your original choice of the 'V'-Wah ;).

Interesting observation - and one that might have been completely subconscious on my part. Quite honestly, I was always a bit put off with the grease/post style of wahs in general and the V-Wah seemed to cover a number of variables - digital, optical pot, multi effect, etc. But when I used it I felt entirely "disconnected" from the wah - was weird. The Clyde-D feels like a wah I've been using all my life. It's awesome, and MAN does it sound GOOD.

Thanks for that - made me ponder my ego and id this morning...
