Does anyone have any time with both of these pedals? I know there is the Pinnacle but I figured the Plextortion could do those tones. As we all know clips can be misleading, however the wampler youtube page clips of both seem really well done. Could the Sovereign handle the Plextortion tones aswell?

Any info on these pedals would be awesome.

This likely isn't much help but, hey, you asked for peoples' experiences.....

I picked up a Plextortion AND a Pinnacle at the same time. Got them home, plugged them in for about an hour. They were back in the boxes and listed in the Classifieds immediately following that. I just didn't like them at all.

That being said, there are lots of guys that swear by Wampler pedals - especially the Pinnacle. I just didn't "get it".......

Thanks for the honesty. I am surprised because I never have seen or heard anything bad about them. Very interesting!

Perhaps one caveat I should make: I don't like getting dirt from pedals generally.

These two pedals are designed to be "dirt generators", so right out of the gate they are designed to do something I don't typically like.

However, there ARE some pedals on the market I DO like in terms of the "amp-like" tones they generate. The Wampler pedals were not two of them! :lol: :LOL:

Haven't had one of those. I was going to get the plextortion for a while and ended up getting rid of most all my pedals in favor of an RP1000.

I Will say the Wampler triple rectortion that I had was unbelievable.

The Bogner Red smokes the Plextortion up, down, and sideways.

Can you name those pedals that you prefer over the Wamplers? :)

Oops. Just saw this question for me.

Presumably, if you are looking at those particular Wampler pedals, you are aiming your crosshairs at Marshall tones. For those tones, over the Wamplers, I personally prefer:

* Rothwell Hellbender
* Xotic BB with Midboost
* MI Crunch Box

Here's a PGS demo of the Hellbender:

YMMV.

That demo of the rothwell hellbender sounds great. I had a mi audio crunchbox and it didn't do so well with the band and sounded kind of narrow. They have a super crunchbox out now, that I may give a try.

For my Marshally tones right now (when I am not using my jubilee), I use a byoc Marshall guv nor clone. Interestingly I was able to dial in my hermida distortion to sound very Marshally. Too bad hermida is not building pedals anymore. :(

Yeah, the Hellbender is definitely my current favourite "Marshall in a box".

I like the Xotic as well, but I tend to use it more as a boost.

like you I was going to invest in a few wamplers

but ended up with a Carl Martin Plexitone

believe the hype - authentic JMP/JCM tones in a pedal :rock:

using my "tube-less" set up I can get darn near the same tones Pete Thorn gets using his PT100 in his YT vid

Plus never had a amp friendlier pedal - works with almost
any amp as well as working great when getting boosted
by another OD pedal.

I made a few short clips of my plexitone - let me know if
anyones interested and I'll post them

I picked up a Dunlop 78 distortion pedal yesterday for 70 bucks after having a/b'd it against those two, a wampler slostortion, and a few others. Great organic sound and for 70 bucks? Yea.

I'd like to hear the clips of the plexitone fuzzboat! Post em up!!

I am.... Also, do you have the Vintage Plexitone or the smaller one?

here they are

PLEX_tone is just the plexitone & my guitar - nothing else
http://soundcloud.com/bad_mts_monkey/plex-tone

New_B is thru my "tube-less" setup and again basically "dry" with just a hint of echo (I went
from clean to crunch using just my guitar vol control)
http://soundcloud.com/bad_mts_monkey/new-b

Both are just the PT's crunch channel with gain & tone around 1 oclock and the boost on but with the boost control set to barely on

I used Guitar Rig 5 (note: just the Tape Machine & "Control Room" Cab Simulator and nothing else) to record - I still getting my feet wet as far recording I just plugged in & picked a cab sim that
sounded decent and hit record)

Very nice fuzzboat, the first clip has that nice kerrang in the tone. I like it.

I drove an hour to a store that had all the Wamplers.

Tried both of those and did not like either very much. I did love the Triple Wreck and bought it. Killer killer monster of a pedal.

I also own a Red... Amazing pedal. Run it into a DSL100, it is like another amp, not a dirt box. I agree with another poster that the Red smokes the other two Wamplers mentioned. And I am a Wapler fan boy. I also have an Ego Compressor. Red and Wreck on a pedalboard = Dirt is Done. :rock:

Good luck on the tone quest.
