Wanna get a great recto

I know there's a million versions...
If you had $1,100 and wanted a great Mesa head (Recto) what would you buy and why?

I have no issues with used gear and have plenty of 412s already...

I should mention that I cannot live without my decimator Prorack in the loop - so it's gotta have a good usable loop...:)
 
A regular 2 Channel Triple Rectifier. Without question.

I was a Dual Recto guy for many years until I play my buddys Triple Recto a few weeks ago.

 
I can tell you, it wouldn't be something that can be popped into a Randall/Egnater!

The loop in the older Rectos were junk.
 
This is already helping me refine a bit...What is a good price to look for and are there revisions I should look for?

I was in your position once. I searched out an early two channel Tremoverb 120W head

By far my favorite. Between the Triple rec an dual rec i noticed that the triple had a bit more depth at TV volume but i preferred the voicing of the Tremoverb.

 
Depends. If you care about total versatility (clean, lots of "in between" gain tones) and a good loop, probably a used Roadster. If you want "the" recto sound, I'd say go for a two-channel Dual or Triple.

Mods are a great option too. If you can find a really good deal on a standard 3-channel, get it modded for extra rippage!
 
Trem o verb. My friends got one that sounds like my old dual, and i can play his without a boost. Mine was too flubby without one.

Series loop in my Rev F rackmount works great. It was the parallel loops that were the problem, even at 100% you got this weird phase noise. There was a mod for those which I tried, seems to just work better on the old ones. *shrugs*

The Mini Recto- because it's has the tightest-low end I have ever heard from a Rectifier amp.
 
Tverb. No question for me. I bought one brand new in 95' and kick myself in the ass everyday for selling it due to getting married, etc...

I don't have much experience with other Rectos, but I love my Triple. :rock:
 
I think it depends on the setting. If volume constaints are there- such as a typical soundman at a local club or practicing in a residential setting- I'm not sure a triple rec is the best idea. Maybe the latest version is different, but the ones from the late 90s and 00's were awful at low and moderate volumes "can of bees". Solid metal at loud volumes, but know the drawbacks.

I also thought the Duals were widely regarded as superior to Triples....and 2 channel versions better than 3 channel. Early 90s pre500 are highly sought; you had a taste with the Sacred Groove Diablo mod, so that may help your decision.

I'd also consider an FJA modded Rectifier, there's a few people here (looking at you Mailman) who flipped endless amps before finding their happiness with FJA. The Lickliter mod sounded good in clips, VooDoo is always well regarded...I'd be curious to get a modded Rec
